It was another rough night on the farm, save for a great performance by Greg Peavey. That being said, I’m pretty sure all the minor league teams combined for fewer mental errors and idiotic plays than the big league club committed last night.
Scranton W/B 4, Buffalo 2
Zack Wheeler had the privilege of starting another matinee, lasting 5.1 innings and giving up 4 runs (3 earned) on 5 hits, walking 3 and striking out 3. Lucas Duda was 2 for 4. Matt Den Dekker was 0 for 4 as the Bisons managed just 5 singles.
Binghamton 1, New Hampshire 0
This was quite a surprise, but Greg Peavey pitched 7 shutout innings, striking out 6. Jeff Kaplan and Andrew Carpenter helped complete the shutout for the B-Mets. Wilmer Flores and Jefry Marte had 2 hits each. Flores hit his 13th double of the season and scored the only run of the game.
St. Lucie was rained out. They will play a double header today against Jupiter, whom they trail by a game and a half in the standings, as they chase a second half title to match their first half divisio title.
Asheville 6, Savannah 0
The Gnats managed just 2 hits in yet another anemic offensive effort for Savannah. Marcos Camarena let up 3 runs in 6.2 innings, striking out 5 and walking none.
Tri-City 5, Brooklyn 2
Rainy Lara had an uncharacteristically bad outing, letting up 4 runs in 4.1 innings and getting just his 2nd loss of the season. Matt Koch did throw 3 scoreless innings in relief, striking out 3. Nelfi Zapata hit a 2-run homer to give Brooklyn their only runs of the game. Phillip Evans was 2 for 4.
Kingsport 4, Burlington 3 (Game 1, 8 innings)
After Yeixon Ruiz reached on a fielding error to lead off the 8th, Gavin Cecchini and Maikis De La Cruz hit back-to-back doubles to put the K-Mets on top for good. Jeff Diehl had 2 hits and 2 RBI’s earlier in the game. Persio Reyes was good, letting up 2 runs over 6 innings, striking out 4, but getting the no decision.
Burlington 4, Kingsport 3 (Game 2, 7 innings)
Corey Oswalt struck out 5 and gave up just 1 run in 4.1 innings, but the bullpen was less effective. Maikis De La Cruz and Jeff Diehl had 2 hits each. Gavin Cecchini was 1 for 3 with an RBI. Shortstop Anthony Chavez doubled and drove in a run.
