My fellow Mets fans lets face the facts WE ARE MASOCHISTS !!!! We root, live by – and die by a team that gives us nothing but heart burn – yet we stay.
But why do we stay ? We stay because we are loyal to a fault. Whether it is ingrained in our D.N.A , or we just love to root for a team that has dished out more heartbreak than elation than the normal sports fan can digest.
We are masochists – WE ARE METS FANS !!!
Yes we entertain the idea of boycotting the team until a change of ownership is implemented, but more times than not we get reeled back in like Michael Corleone in ” The Godfather Part 3″ by exciting first halves of the season.
You can tell that it is late August at Citi Field because there is less than 30,000 fans in attendance – but you know you are watching the game in the comfort of your home or the local dominatrix’s abode. We still watch the games – as painful as they have been. We listen to half witted radio personalities try to incite the dimmer minded of our fans – while he tries tries to goad General Manager Sandy Alderson into a verbal boxing match – just so we can get our blood pressure up to defcon 4 levels.
We love and care for this team, so at 7:00 every night we break out the ball gags, the whips and the handcuffs as we submit ourselves to yet another torturous second half.
Why you may ask ?
WE ARE MASOCHISTS – WE ARE METS FANS !!!!
And with that said… HERE COMES THE INFAMY !!!!!
Mets alumni celebrating a birthday today includes:
“Father Time” himself, Julio Franco is 54 (1958).
Back up catcher from the ’86 season, Ed Hearn is 52 (1960).
The original Teenage Mutant Ninja Catcher, Raul Casanova is 40 (1972).He played for the Mets during their last winning season (2008).
One time outfield prospect, Prentice Redman is 33 (1979).
Middle reliever from ’02-’03,Pat Strange is 32 (1980).
The New York Mets traded pinch hitter, Gary Bennett to the Colorado Rockies for minor league outfielder, Ender Chavez on August 23, 2001.
Mo Vaughn is putting out a coffee table book called “50 Shades of Mo”. I t will have Mr. Vaughn in various poses while he is covered in various dessert toppings” !!!

It’s that time of year for Met fans. One that includes watching games to see how the young’uns and prospects are looking. It sure as heck isn’t because we’re playing any meaningful games right now.
10 games under .500. Haven’t been there since the injury riddled season of 2009. At least we had a legitimate excuse that year.
This year? Along with losing 3/5s of the opening day starting rotation – and SP really isn’t the problem – we’ve got a 6 man platoon OF, non existent offense and a bad defense team and an awful BP, for the most part.
Take last night…when your SP is the only batter to get more than 1 hit, what more needs to be said?

Masochists indeed.
OT: read this on MLBTR.
Mets GM Sandy Alderson expects the team to improve via trade over the offseason, tweets Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com. Alderson would go on to hint at significant changes, saying that the team needs “an infusion of players, productive players,”
Uh, reading between the lines here, what trade chips do the Mets have? Wright, Dickey and, uh, uh, Familia (
). What else is there to trade? You know they aren’t cleaning out the minor leagues for rental/1-2 year types.

Oh boy….
While it’s true we for sure need ‘an infusion of players, productive players’, I’d sure hate to give up two current productive players named Wright and Dickey.

spin baby!
He always went on to say they have a lot of pitching at the lower levels (brooklyn/Savanah I guess) alluding to maybe moving some of that?
can also go with the volume type trade?
But yeah, not a hell of a lot to trade that is bringing you back what you need, unless you go bold (Dickey).

I wouldn’t doubt if Spin was certainly a trade option, though at this point he may be the only OF option we have that is decent.
Ever since he went off the handle from being called out on that bang/bang play at first i was thinking he’s not long for this place. Not sure the hot headed-ness will land him the Milledge treatment or not. Please Spin Please… No rap albums.

no, that was just fire, grit and hustle. Grustle.
that is OK, as it is different than attitude.

Other than that head first slide into first, I didn’t really see anything wrong with Spin jumping up and down b/c he was called out. It was extremely close.
I remember a similar play with Reyes at third base. Never saw him so animated, jumping up and down. On that play though, he was clearly safe.
That being said, I just don’t see Spin as a ML hitter. He’s 23 now and his plate discipline is awful. If someone could fix him, he’d have some nice power that could be shown. I have no problem if they package him in a trade.

I was so sure he was going to bump that ump. I understand being upset, but no rookie gets love from an ump, let alone a jumping up and down pissed off rookie.

I hear ya. It was probably pure luck he didn’t bump the ump with him popping up then jumping up and down screaming.

The sad part is that right know Milledge would probably be their best outfielder. (J/K)

Nobody read my post yesterday where I covered what Sandy said in his interview thereby beating Rubin by a day. Adam was to busy knowing what the Met’s payroll is before their GM which is topic for discussion for another day – what a joke.
