    Good.
    Wonder at whose expense?

    1. Bryan

most likely Carson. Anyone else would be a bit of a surprise.

I thought of him too, but didn’t know if they’d go one man short for this week.

          why not spin?

          1. Bryan

Possible, but he’s been playing, and after all the time he’s been in the bigs this year why send him down now?

    well, about time dammit.

I hate to say it, but I thought the same thing. Drank a Chimay grand reserve today and am working on terrapin hopsecutioner. Good stuff.

        Mmm, Terrapin…

just saw the details on that Dodgers trade. That was certainly unexpected, and man, did they just fire up the checkbook without really looking ahead! Unless they honestly think Crawford and Beckett have a chance of rebounding into productive players, that was a hell of a lot of payroll added to get Agon.

especially considering they gave up a couple of top end pitching prospects (hard to exactly compare, but say Harvey or Wheeler and Mejia?) the other guys at least seem like spare parts.

I don’t get it. Didn’t work for Boston, that’s for such. Awful lot of money just to basically get AGon.

I think part of it is taking a chance on the realization that Crawford is still a good player and could very well rebound from his awful initial time in Boston. Look at Beltran’s rebound. If he does, and Beckett does anything useful, this deal could look pretty good.

It’s LA, new owners with deep pockets and new TV deal on the horizon. This could totally be th Mets had they sold to people with money…

      1. Stick

        maybe not.

there would not have been any big windfall TV contract coming. Plus all the debt the team has that would likely carry over.

and of course, the Dodgers pull in way more people.

so is it a guarantee that a new owner would have so much money that they would be willing to fund a major loss for a year or 2, trying to build a base?

IMO, the fans will NOT immediately flock back just because of a new owner. And even a splashy player or 2, they will still hold back, waiting to see a winning team. So, it might work. Or could go down in flames.

If you look at Major League Attendance figures for 2006, 2007 and 2008 you’ll see that the Dodgers and Mets jockeyed for the 2nd and 3rd spot behind the Yankees. In fact in 2008 the Mets drew over 4 million people so the attendance potential is there for the Mets. The Dodgers signed a lucrative TV contract with Fox Sports but again with a winning team the potential from SNY, because the Wilpons have a stake in the ownership, is greater than with Fox Sports. The problem with the Mets is that they have sucked since 2009. I can tell you from watching the Dodgers tonight the enthusiasm is back and the attendance is rising after dropping in 2011.
