The Sunday Question

The Mets need a catcher….I just don’t think that Josh Thole has what it takes to be an everyday player…as his season is proving.

Today’s question: Is Kelly Shoppach the answer?  Should the Mets look elsewhere for a backstop or did they just get lucky?

They should definitely try to resign him. It’s tough to find catchers anywhere nowadays so it’s going to be very tough to find someone better in free agency or a trade and they need someone good enough so that Thole plays less than 50% of the time and Shoppach is good enough.

I’d like to have a better starting catcher so Shoppach could be a backup, but as long as Josh Thole is in Triple-A or on another team next year, I’ll be satisfied.

they should resign him as a platoon/backup type, and look for a better option than Thole as the other guy.

Ideally, they get say that dude from Toronto to be the catcher of the future to build around, with Shopvac as the veteran support.

Yes, platoon with Thole with Shoppach getting the majority of starts and letting Thole catch Dickey primarily. Not much out there and if they can have Shoppach for a few years till they see if this years Draft product at Catcher pans out or not so be it.

Also, nice to have another righty bat in the line up to balance out the batting order.

Shop over Thole definitely. With all the holes in the team I would rather have all resources focused on OF and the pen and resign shop. Cather is so weak across the league the is no reason to spend high for lower impact.

    Sign Shoppach definitely.

Like to upgrade over Thole as well but not sure that’s going to happen.

Yeah, platoon Shoppach and Thole next year. Not much else to say.
