A 3-Year Look At Wright Compared To Some Of The Best 3B In MLB

Looking back on the season some of the positives was David Wright. Looking ahead most of the talk will revolve around if the Mets will be able to resign Wright and if not will he then be traded before the start of next season?

There is much debate as to how good or bad Wright is and coming off a sub par season in 2011 I wanted to see what Wright’s numbers in some of the major offensive statistical categories look like over these past 3 seasons compared to some of the best 3B in MLB. I compared him against 15 other 3B that played in at least parts of 2010-2012 and included some who only played 3B for the 1st time this year like Hanley Ramirez. Below are the results.

even though you did not draw a conclusion, I would assume that even in his decline phase of bad years, he is still actually pretty good relative to the competition?

All the better to trade high on him, so he can go put together 3-4 MVP caliber years in a row!

Yes, despite what some would qualify as subpar years Wright’s number rank favorably among some of the best. Of course there are too many variables to list for example players like chipper were in their latter years and others do not have as many ab’s as Wright did but all in all Wright still ranks well amongst the better MLB 3B.

if he had been healthy last year he’d probably have ranked a spot or two higher in hits, hr, rbi and would lead them all in whiffs!

but look at the bright side. With the entire cracker jack coaching crew coming back, all these guys will have there problems magically fixed, right?

wait, what is that you say, the same voices from the past few years are going to reinforce the same failure policies and messages? Well damned it all to heck.

dont have a problem with the coaches coming back or the “policies.” the bottom line is that the talent is not good enough and ownership isnt prepared to do anything about it.

        Truer words were never spoken.

Finally, I find someone who agrees with me.
I should have known I’d find that person here on TRDM.

oh, I agree that the FO is not prepared to actually do anything about the talent gap. You know that!

what is impossible to say is what the coaches did or didn’t do to help the talent that they did have (getting the most out of it, whatever that might be)

Random: Team now stuck on my win total prediction for them for a few days. Hope they get a few in FLA just to do better than 73. Not that it matters.

Well, correction there’s one that matters: Dickey’s start.

We should find that post from the beginning of the season where we all weighed in on our predictions for the NL east.

I had the Mets in last place at 74 wins.
I might be spot on with the 74 wins, but we wind up in 4th not last place.

Please win tomorrow on Dickey Day. That’s all I care about now with these last 2 games left.

          Thanks for digging those up.
I see on the first link I actually said right around 75 (not 74) and last place. Dang…now we have to take tomorrow’s game and the last. :-)

I thought there was one either TRS or Kingman put up with their predictions and we all weighed in on them.
I could be thinking about the year before though. Not a big deal.

Actually thought after that first half i was going to be about 10 games under on my prediction but the second half of Mets baseball took care of that notion….

          1. srt

Ah…this is the one I remember. TRS predicted 74 wins for the Mets, I responded with ‘push’.

74/75 wins….looks like some of us were right on the money.

I’ve read many posts/fans already predicting next year’s record. Little too early for me. Don’t even know what the team will look like yet. So many questions, so little money……

I thought I had estimated 77 wins for our beloved franchise but it appears I agreed with the 74 win prediction.

Even though it’s too early for next year’s predictions if the Mets take the best approach for the future and trade both Dickey and Wright next year could be a repeat of some of the most depressing years in Mets history. Although it could be worse, we could be Pirates fans.

LOL, looks like the Mets are the only one that I even came close to.

There is some drama in both tonight’s game and tomorrow’s game. Tonight we root for Dickey to get his 21st victory and possibly see Dickey pitch his last game for the Mets. Tomorrow we may very well see David Wright’s last game for the Mets.

It’s on TRS! At this point you are only 4 points behind. I am dumfounded you got anything out of Familia. I had a smile on my face all day thinking he was going to give you a negative score.
