According To Sources: The Wright & Dickey Off Season Chronicles 10/9/2012

Now with the off season underway one of the many things that come with it is the according to sources, people familiar with the team’s thinking and every other similar variable of rumors or reports depending on how you come down on this regarding things from free agents to trades.

The Mets David Wright & R.A. Dickey are 2 Mets who will undoubtebly be a part of many of these articles until a time some resolution is reached. The 1st of these articles came Oct 6, 2012 when Mike Puma of the NY Post wrote an article that said according to a baseball source with knowledge of the team’s thinking “…it’s conceivable Wright and Dickey will have new deals in place, at least in principle, by the time the World Series begins later this month.

Now today we have Jon Heyman with an article that states according to people familiar with the team’s thinking “The Mets are expected to open negotiations with an offer for somewhere in the neighborhood of $100 million for star third baseman David Wright“.

I doubt this will be the last of these “According To Sources” articles. I’ll try to see if I can chronicle them as they come as far as they relate to Wright and Dickey.

Baseball’s offseason hasn’t officially started yet, and I’m already sick of the whole thing. Can we just fast forward to Spring Training and get all this nonsense over with?

I have an opinion on this, but am open to arguments from both sides of the keep or let them go debate.

my only condition, is whatever they are going to do, it do it fast and get this over with so we can all move on with our lives.

Didn’t you read? Puma says this will most likely be done in a few weeks.

It’s the Mets. nothing ever happens easy.

and IMO the only way it happens that quick is if they come in with a top $$ offer. Otherwise, it can drag on.

Frankly, I think that the best way for the team to have a chance of actually being good (and winning enough to be a playoff team) by 2014 is to trade them. Otherwise, you are just going to see the same basic team, with just some of the spare parts shuffling around. Unless you think Wheeler coming up is going to put the same bunch of misfits over the top?

I should know better being a Mets fan and knowing past history and all but I like what I’ve seen so far of Wheeler and barring injuries a future rotation of Niese, Harvey and Wheeler is one I look forward to.

I agree about those three. It is the rest of the team that worries me!

Sickles has released his preliminary January ratings and on the pitching list, he’s got Wheeler at #5, Familia at #37 and Fulmer at #46.
            That’s out of 50.

On his preliminary hitting prospects we’ve only got one:
            Flores at #28.

Someone wake me up at the end of October when this is supposedly all said and done.

I just can’t get bent out of shape with these rumors until they become facts.

      Well stated.

If the Yankees continue to the WS then the Mets FO can work under a cloak of anonymity and perhaps get something accomplished one way or another. Of course they can ask the Romulans for their cloaking device.
