Last Monday at this time the Tri State was preparing for a Hurricane that wound up being one of the worst in History. While many (myself included) count our blessings that the worst of it was days without power and some property damage, others were not as fortunate where for some this past week altered their lives forever.
I don’t expect the day to day of talking sports to stop and I know for many it helps take the mind away from things like the endless hours listening to a battery operated radio under candle light hoping to hear positive news regarding areas where either you or your loved ones live.
I know many of the regulars that frequent some of the more popular Mets sites have yet to be heard from and I send my thoughts & prayers wherever they are. Here at RDM a recent addition to the community HobokenMetsFan I believe is still waiting for power and I haven’t seen anything from Bryan or Daniel in sometime now and not knowing where they reside I just hope they are well.
In particular though I want to say one of RDM’s longest and most respected members of it’s community SRT aka MetsFan4Decades has not been heard from all week. Her and her husband is believed to have been living down the shore and though she will kill me for saying this she is (a little) up there in age and well this along with her believed to be living down the shore and not hearing from her has us here very worried to know if she is OK. So if anyone has talked to her and can share any info it would be greatly appreciated.
In closing I just want to finish by saying I will make an effort to see if I can pick things up and on behalf of RDM I apologize for the lack of content but I am sure all will agree that all things considered you understand why there wasn’t.
Thoughts & Prayers to everyone affected by Hurricane Sandy from all of us here at RDM.

glad you are OK. And if that crack does not flush her out, you know she does not have internet access!
Oh, and she is only about 3 years older than me I believe, so watch it buddy…
I know she is in or near Tom’s river, but I am under the impression that she is not right on the coast, so hopefully it is more of being in a bad area for power outages, and not that you now own a houseboat.

IP lookup suggests closer to Long Branch/Eatontown.
Did anyone try emailing her?

I’m good. I’m in Syracuse where we got plenty of rain and wind but nothing too bad. My power was off for a couple hours, but that’s all.
The AFL season is ending in about a week and a half, so after the season ends I’ll do a write up on how the Mets prospects did. After that, I’ll probably do a post reacting to the guys the Mets added to the 40 to protect from rule 5 (I believe the deadline to add guys is the 20th). So, there’s some stuff upcoming on the minor league front.

I’ve got a bunch of friends that were without power in Rochester for a while, but we didn’t get much more than some stiff winds and moderate rain down here in Ithaca. We dodged a bullet here in CNY.

Yeah I’m worried about 4D, but I know a lot of people still don’t have power – and it sounds like by mid-week most people will. (my uncle and his family on western LI don’t have power, heard estimates of Wednesday night). I just hope her home isn’t destroyed.
So let’s wait a week, and then get REALLY worried.
I think it’ll be fine.

my SIL is in oceanside LI. Seems they are much closer to the ocean than the 2 blocks they used to be (and that was some kind of inlet) with part of it in their house.
No idea yet how dried out they are, or if power is back. Biggest issue seemed to be no one could get gas up there.

Ahhh my aunt/uncle are in East Meadow, so pretty close. Hopefully your relatives are on the same “late Wednesday” timetable for power.

The gas situation is insane here. 2 hour lines and 90% of the stations have been closed. Those that are open run out of gas in about 4-5 hours. Where I work 4 people I work with had 6 feet of water take out their first floor of their homes and are waiting for FEMA. FEMA won’t deal with them until after their insurance looks at their homes. One other friend on a canal in Massapequa/Seaford the same – 6 feet of water taking out his first floor. Once north of Merrick Ave. it wasn’t as bad. It supposedly flooded incredibly quickly. One lady looked outside to go move her car went to get her keys and the base of her driveway was under water, 10 minutes later water was coming in her house. Just crazy. All things considered going without power for 6 days was trivial to us and we feel lucky that we sustained no damage. Now this weeks storm could be another problem. It’s Mad-Max like at times with the gas deal.

Nice to see you back. I tried to help give our kids some content, and definitely was concerned about you Mr. N.
My parents in Essex County are still without power, but are OK.
I think MF4D is in her late 40s, maybe 50 tops I think, as I think she is a little older than me. I really, really hope we hear from her soon, but as I think maybe she does not have a smart phone and very possibly has been without power/Internet, she probably/hopefully is OK but unable to check in.
It’s been an eye-opening, sobering week in so many ways.
My sister lives across the Hudson from Manhattan and her area was flooded, and my parents, in their 70s, were freezing down there, fortunately had full tanks of gas, and came up to Saratoga.
So it is nice to see you Mr. N, and here’s hoping we hear from the First Lady of RDMB very soon.

Thanks let me add that you, Prismo and everyone else’s contributions this past week considering the lack of content and all that transpired is appreciated.
Mets haven’t really given anything worth discussing and personally I don’t care to try and write another variation of Wright and how much money is too much post. Others probably can’t get enough of that but to each his own.
Sorry to hear about your parents & sister. 4D’s memory of 1969 season always made me think she was in her 50′s (I’m in my early 40′s soon to be mid myself) so I should note that when I said “little up there” one should put a lot of emphasis on little. Your right though hopefully the odds are she just has no means of communication.

Glad to be able to help and REALLY glad to see you back. Up in Saratoga we just got a few hours of wind and rain and nothing much.
I am 46 and I think 4D is a few years older than me–I think she was a kid in 1969–I was 3 and too young to remember and my impression is that maybe she was like 8 or 10 then.
Funny, my Dad just called and their power is back on after a full week.
What DO you think about the David Wright situation?

MR. North, in talking to MF9D in the dugout over the years I know she moved from right on the shore to about 30-40 miles inland a few years ago. My gut tells me she is sitting in the dark with a couple blankets wrapped around her just itching to see if the Mets have done anything. I can’t wait to hear from her.
I’m most worried about our nemesis “Bayonne Mets Fan”. Bayonne was leveled and I cant imagine what people had to go through over there.

A number of years ago I became friends with a co-worker whose parents escaped Eastern Europe in the early 1940s and resettled in Brazil. He was born and raised in Brazil and I was lucky to spend some time with him and his family in the Rio de Janeiro area. I observed that the Brazilian women were the most beautiful I had ever seen and they wore the smallest bathing suits on this planet. At the time I wished I could speak Portuguese but fortunately there are some languages that are universal.

Compared to me SRT and the entire community of TRDMB members are young whippersnappers. I’ll be 70 the end of this month and for a bit of time I didn’t think I was going to make it to my 70th birthday. I wondered if all the ex-wives, children and grandchildren showed up at my funeral if the line of cars would look like some of the gas lines we have been witnessing.Considering my youthful misadventures I am shocked that I have lived this long. Anyway I’m glad that some of you have reported in but I’m concerned for the ones that have not. I’m also concerned about the new storm forecast for Wednesday.

could be forever for some strays.
A guy I work with (who lives down here near Philly someplace) just got power back yesterday. He said that it was pretty much just him and a couple neighbors. Rest of the block, across the street, all never lost power. Just a tree down at the wrong spot took out a few houses, and they were way down the priority list.
