Guys I apologize that I don’t have time to do this post justice but the name is intriguing to me. I think adding the future HOF, who granted isn’t what he used to be, into our RF slot and atop our lineup could be just what our OF needs. What’s everyone’s opinion?

I don’t see how the Mets can afford his services.

Anybody other than what we currently have is a good fit.

We could teach Oliver Perez to play RF

i don’t think he is what the Mets need and I can’t imagine him being interested.

Exactly. From a FA perspective only someone that is blown away by a contract or needs a place to attempt a comeback would sign with the Mets, There is absolutly no reason why Ichiro would sign here. I bet he would take a limited platoon/bench role on a contending team over a contract with a dollar figure on it. The guy probably only has 2 years left and he isn’t going to waste it.

agreed. better off shopping in the damaged goods aisle, for guys that are trying to have a rebound year to restore their value.
A guy like Ichiro is certainly picking the yankees or some other playoff favorite team for his swan song.

Its not a terrible idea. They need a leadoff hitter and a RF but unfortunately I think his price and the Mets budget aren’t a match.

well, 1st, answer the question of what you are trying to accomplish.
get anyone possible to fill in for a year (age and future use be damned) to try and beat the odds and make a run at the playoffs?
or continue (start?) to work toward building a new foundation for 2014+, even if it means living with some younger guys learning on the job (and taking some lumps?).
Of course, that would entail having those young guys worth waiting for!
I guess DW and RA will set the tone. If they reup those 2, they need to invest in parts to try and compete in 2013 too.

I can see him re-signing with the Yanks for “relatively” cheap. Based on all the chatter I’ve had with Mariner fans, he was not a prize, locker room wise. At this point, with a young-ish team, I want people who, if rentals, are good for the clubhouse as well as on the field. I know, you can’t have your cake if you are allergic to icing, but whatever, you shoot for that good club house guy and see where it does from there.

I love Ichiro; he was a HOF-level player for years for the Mariners.
He’s not anymore.
He’s 39, has played about 8000 games, has been a remote shell of his former self the last 2 years, clearly wants to win, and I know a LOT of people who know things in Seattle, and everyone has always said he is a VERY self-centered, me-first kind of guy.
4–5 years ago? Put me at the head of the line barking for Ichiro, as I did a few times, thinking of how much damage he and Reyes could have done together at the top of the lineup.
But Ichiro will most definitely want way too much money and/or want to be with a team who can win now.
Nice thought, but no chance and not a good idea at all.
