The Sunday Question

I’m getting kinda tired just hearing about this Wright/Dickey business….just sign them already and get on to bigger things…..

Which is today’s question.

Besides the two mentioned above, which position MUST Alderson upgrade in?  Do you have any suggestions for said position?

I think you meant, just trade them and lets move on!

anyway, what position? I am taking it to mean beyond any options in the system. So, looking at it as worst and up, I would vote catcher, CF, and RP in that order.

Catcher because they honestly don’t have anyone close to being a viable starter, with any kind of future. OF, just because the guys floating around still all have issues. And RP is not as big a worry to me, simply because there are quite a few live arms to mix/match with, and it is the easiest position to bring in news guys for (and seems to have the most variation year to year in what you get).

Of course, catcher is hardest to address, so I am thinking that leaves OF as the position he has to address, because it is relatively simple.

If they can’t find even 1 OF upgrade, then the FO really is clueless and useless and should be swept out of office.

Catcher and right field. At catcher they need a righty bat who can be counted on to play at least half the time; Josh Thole can’t be the full-time catcher. I’ve heard A.J. Pyrzinski as a possibility, which I wouldn’t mind but not if it means two lefty hitting catchers. In right field they need someone right hitting that has some power. They won’t get an all-star, but they need someone who can play good defense and provide maybe 20 homeruns. I think every other position the Mets can kind of piece it together with what they have in the organization, but they need outside help at catcher and RF.

You’re not the only one tired of reading all the rumors swirling about Wright and especially Dickey….

I’m in the camp of extend both.

Other than that regarding needs I’d go with:
    RF
    Catcher
    BP arm(s)

    in that order….
BP arm(s) ought to be the easiest to get.
I have no idea what they’re doing in the OF. Personally, I’d rather see a true CF and RF but that’s probably not in the cards. I take it Duda is playing LF so we need good defense in CF and RF, not to mention a good bat out of at least one of those 2. And Kirk/Spin in CF?

Catcher…..we certainly need another catcher as I’m reading Thole will stay. With the market on catchers though, I’m not expecting much more of an upgrade there.

If they wind up trading Dickey, I hope we get back something good for the OF.
I’m leaning towards Wright will be extended.

Catcher is definitely in need of an upgrade. The Mets offensive output alone from the catcher spot was among the worst in MLB. They produced a MLB worst SLG % of .286. That is 38 points below the next closest team the Padres with a .324/SLG.

Outfield, because it’s a glaring problem that Sandy Alderson should be able to address even with his limited budget.

I’d say catcher, but let’s be real – other teams don’t give up good ones anymore.

    To me, clearly the OF.

    Any position really.

We have a returning group of players–Duda, Kirk, Baxter, Valdy and maybe Torres–who rank between mediocre to questionable MLB players.

One new OF must be brought in.

As weak as Thole is, good catchers are hard to find. And there are enough new/different/young arms to have hope for in-house BP improvement.

The OF is atrocious and something must be done.

    RF, followed by C.
