This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty: The ” Look What I Found !!!” Edition 11-12-12

With The exception of the “breaking news/rumors” of the Wilpon’s financial problems, it’s been rather quiet in Mets Land.
So I was puttering around Youtube – and lookie what I found !!!

Click Here and here to view.

The thing that I love best about these clips is that I was there. It was a melancholy day seeing Rusty retire, but it was also a turning point for the Mets, because when you look at the team that they had in ’85, you knew that they would become contenders in short time.

And with that said…. HERE COMES THE INFAMY !!!!

Mets alumni celebrating a birthday today includes:

One of the best pitching coaches in Mets history, Mel Stottlemyre is 71 (1941) .

Utilityman from the ’69 season, Bobby Pfeil is 69 (1943).

One of the most beloved Mets outfielders from the early ’70′s, George Theodore is 66 (1946).

Middle reliever from ’98-’99, Rigo Beltran is 43 (1969).

Middle reliever from the ’04 season, Vic Darensbourg is 42 (1970) .

The New York Mets traded pitchers, Calvin Schiraldi, Wes Gardner and minor league outfielders, John Christensen and LaSchelle Tarver to the Boston Red Sox for starting pitchers, Bob Ojeda, John Mitchell and minor league pitching prospects, Tom McCarthy and Chris Bayer on November 13, 1985. I still maintain that this was Frank Cashen’s most underrated move during his tenure.

The New York Mets released reserve second baseman, Kelvin Chapman on November 13, 1985.

The New York Mets released pinch hitter/reserve first baseman, Tom Paciorek on November 13, 1985. I don’t know why but I always rooted hard for Tom after the Mets acquired him.

The New York Mets released middle reliever, Brent Gaff on November 13, 1985. Gaff was best known for his “forkball” pitch.

The New York Mets released reserve outfielder, Chris Jelic on November 13, 1990.

The New York Mets released reserve outfielder, Keith Hughes on November 13, 1990.

Mo Vaughn is planning on patterning his post Mets career after Rusty Staub. His first move – open his first restaurant called ” Mo’s Mongolian Bar B Q !!!!!

sort of related, my wife found an old photo album of mine from back in college. And for some reason, I kept ticket stubs back in the day. A few concerts, an islanders game, and lots of Met tickets.

I loved the prices (these seemed to be 81-84). $7 for a field box, $4 upstairs, and I think the most expensive was about $9.

I miss Shea. Had a lot of good times in that dump.

Ha! The planes over Shea….funny, but I haven’t heard as many at Citi. Not sure if they routinely change the flight pattern so there are less now?

Funny seeing Rusty in good shape without all his facial capillaries bursting out from all the sausage and beer he consumes.

      which rusty was that?

I’m setting an over-under for the number of trades Sandy makes this offseason.

    1.5 trades: Higher or lower?

I will stick with my rants and go under, though I think it will actually be over.

but under if you only count trades of any real magnitude. Havens for an A ball pitcher you will never hear of again does not really count.

I see you attended the Cerrone school of hedging your bet. :)
