    HAhahahahahahaha

    1. srt

You beat me to it, Salty! That was exactly my first thought.

Let me go out on a limb here and predict that the Marlins will have 5th place all sewed up in 2013.

Wow….Loria is by far the worst owner in MLB. No wonder the Marlins have no fan base.

  2. TX

The Marlins continue to impress how quick they can strip down back to the basics of prospects and no salary.

I’m thinking Jose is wishing he conceded a couple million to get a no-trade clause, eh? Not so close to the Dominican anymore. Doh!

    1. SaltyGary

No doubt on the no-trade clause. Yes, I wanted Jose gone due to cost but I also see why Jose wanted to go to Miami seeing it’s no only a hour flight to his home in the DR. Oh and Miami is pretty fun I hear. Talk about making a deal with the devil, he has to be so pissed. See Jose, this is what a box of chocolates gets you.

      1. TX

I’m just amazed at this whole deal. Talk about a dump of roster/payroll. Granted, they’ll probably have an awesome team in 2 years…

      2. srt

I thought the same thing. He had to have known being traded would be a very real possibility. Heck, most of us fans did.

  3. SaltyGary

And great job Mr. North of posting this before ESPN and Metsblog!

  4. Mr North Jersey

You should listen to 790 The Ticket.

    1. Mr North Jersey

The callers on 790 The Ticket all convey the same message. They feel betrayed and deservedly so. Marlins President Samson is expected on 2morrow and it should be must listen radio if your a Marlins fan.

      1. Mr North Jersey

I’ve been listening to Marlins fans to get a better sense to how they feel and with all due respect to I believe Buster Olney and Joel Sherman I have yet to hear 1 fan share their sentiments.

        1. Mr North Jersey

Their sentiments being that this is a good trade.

          1. Mr North Jersey

Looked at twitter and not Sherman but rather Olney. Here is what Olney said.

            @Buster_ESPN
From a pure baseball standpoint, the Marlins did well with this deal. But this trade has a lot more ripples beyond the makeup of the roster.
            https://twitter.com/Buster_ESPN/status/268524208932397056

            Sherman only said the following,

            @Joelsherman1
Know I’m going to be in minority, but #Marlins plan last yr was ill-conceived. Better off doing financial re-set plus get some young talent

  5. Mr North Jersey

I don’t feel bad for Reyes in that he went into this with his eyes wide open but I do feel bad in that he deserved better by Marlins ownership. I am still waiting on all the details but I have to believe Reyes could of never envisioned this happening when he signed last season.

    1. SaltyGary

Yea, this is the worst possible place for him on that turf. Just amazing how the Marlins did it again. How can they expect to keep fans, it’s just crazy they did this again.

  6. TX

Reading who they are getting back, it is substantial. Henderson Alvarez, Justin Nicolino, Jake Marisnick, Yunel Escobar and Adeiny Hechavarria.

    1. Mr North Jersey

      No Arneud?

      1. TX

not that i’ve seen yet. I would think that at least JP is in that deal, though Buck is toast at this point.

        1. Mr North Jersey

          @jonmorosi
Source: #Marlins will get Jacob Marisnick or Anthony Gose, as well as a catcher — Arencibia, Wilson or Mathis.

    Holy hell…

  8. kingman 26

    W-O-W!!!

Mr N thank you for telling me.

Holy sh*t I can only imagine what Jose must be thinking–NY to Miami to—Toronto!

    Hahaha!

Actually, Toronto is a great, great city. Liveable, modern, clean, safe, amazing sports and culture, and REALLY great Asian food.

But the winters are a BIT colder than Miami.

    This is too much.

    1. darknova306

When I first saw the report Reyes was involved, I immediately pictured him in a wheelchair after a couple years on that turf. Cringe-worthy all the way for him.

      1. kingman 26

        Good point!

        This is too much, really.

        He winds up in Toronto!

It is a great city, but I imagine Jose must be pissed right now!

        1. Hazmet

Or they eat some of his salary and flip him back to the Mets as part of a deal for Dickey ;)

Not that I’d want that, and I was a Jose guy, I’ve moved on and hopefully the Mets have too but it would be pretty funny.

          1. kingman 26

Haz, after RA wins the Cy tomorrow, he soon after signs his new deal!

          2. Hazmet

I’d be good with that. Two teams that were mentioned for trade partners though were the Jays or the Rangers so now the Jays should be out of the rumor mill after this trade.

          3. Stick

not until Wright signs his big money, lifetime deal.

  9. SaltyGary

    Look at Mike Stanton’s tweet:

    @Giancarlo818

Alright, I’m pissed off!!! Plain & Simple

    1. SaltyGary

Oops didn’t see you posted it above…

  10. SaltyGary

The fans should do a public burning of their jersey’s.

    1. kingman 26

Why does jersey’s have an apostrophe but not fans?

I am sorry, but someone needs to study this.

      :-)

      Why not Reye’s?

      1. SaltyGary

Really, you had to turn into the grammar police tonight? Am I not allowed to bust on Cerrone for the week now?

        1. kingman 26

          Hey, just busting the chops.

          And PLEASE bust on Cerrone.

  11. TX

If that Toronto gave up this much to take on that much salary, Dickey will net this team something fine!

    1. darknova306

      We can only hope…

  12. Mr North Jersey

The Marlins trade broke baseball prospectus contract page. LoL

  13. srt

I can’t believe Selig and MLB lets Loria get away with this dismantling the team time after time after time.

What good will it do if all those prospects make good in the MLs in a few years? Miami will have one good year – maybe win it all – and Loria will just start selling off pieces again.

And some complain about the Wilpons (myself included at times)….they don’t even come close.

  14. Mr North Jersey

    @Enrique_Rojas1
Ahora entienden porque Albert Pujols rechazó $275 millones a #Marlins por no incluir cláusula NO-CAMBIO?
    https://twitter.com/Enrique_Rojas1/status/268522412579123200

Translation: Now do you understand why Albert Pujols refused $275M from the Marlins because it didn’t include a no trade clause?

  15. Mr North Jersey

    @Enrique_Rojas1
José Reyes está de vacaciones en Dubai y llega el jueves a USA. #BlueJays
    https://twitter.com/Enrique_Rojas1/status/268524657966194689

Translation: Jose Reyes is on vacation in Dubai and will arrive to the U.S.A. on Thursday.

  16. TRS86

Well now, that’s something… LOL. In some ways I feel sorry for Reyes but was he really that naive? If so his agent should be shot. Not only that but with his contract so backloaded he was going to be making less already.

But after his crap on how the Marlins courted him the second after midnight and showed how they really wanted him and all the cracks he made at the Mets about feeling betrayed, can’t say that I am too upset that he has been sent to media purgatory.

Speaking of, I wonder how much ad revenue he just lost heading from Miami to the tundra?

    1. srt

I can’t imagine someone playing MLB could really be that naive but maybe Jose is. Either that or he really doesn’t care and it was all about the money and nothing but.

His agent….now I can see him nudging Reyes into taking that Miami offer. After all, the more Reyes gets, the more the agent makes.

Would really love to be a fly on the wall to know just what Jose thinks of this trade. Wonder if he really is regretting not working out a deal with the Mets to stay in NY?

      1. Stick

He had to be fully aware that Miami was a temporary pitstop until he got traded when the backload came due.

But, it would not surprise me at all if the assumption by team Reyes was the same as many here said, and that he was going to be in the Bronx in a couple of years to replace Jeter.

Guess that is a lot less likely now!

        1. srt

My money was ‘all in’ on Miami trading Reyes after 2013 to the Yankees to replace Jeter when his contract ended.

Dang…didn’t see a trade coming with Reyes this soon but there was no doubt in my mind he would NEVER have finished out that contract in Miami.

    2. TX

Well, I assume if he held out some instead of jumping on the marlins like white on rice/prom queen on her king/Phillips on an intern, he might have negotiated a little smarter. Not saying he could have done better money wise, but hind sight is looking behind you and all that…

      1. Stick

they got the magic money offer, and it probably came with a real short decision period (and the threat that they would just buy Pujols instead!). So he signed.

Even they knew it was a windfall, and the Mets weren’t coming close.

  17. Stick

    well, this was certainly exciting.

But at least they were doing something. Good thing the Mets are firmly set on quadrupling down on the 2012 team until I am ready for social security. That way we don’t have to worry about having to get all frazzled trying to learn how to spell new player names, and stuff like that.

I would say 1 more year of sitting with his thumb up his ass, and Sandy might almost have a feel for the organization, so he will be able to start thinking about formulating a plan to start considering discussing a trade at some undefined time in the future.

  18. gategem

As Kong said Toronto is an incredible city. One of my ex-wives was born and raised in Toronto (I’ve had two Canadian ex-wives…..one representing the English speaking segment of the population and one that was French Canadian). But Jose will cringe at the prospect of the artificial turf and some of the cold nights in spring and fall. But they do play indoors so that is some consolation.

I’ll say this no grass grows under Loria’s feet. :-)

  19. srt

Rosenthal hits the nail on the head here:

    http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/miami-marlins-jeffrey-loria-blockbuster-deal-with-toronto-blue-jays-cannot-justify-trade-should-sell-team-111312

‘Owner Loria should just sell Marlins’
‘Jeffrey Loria goes too far in latest fire sale of Miami Marlins’

    1. Stickguy

sell the Marlins to a rich guy like Cuban, who can then move the team somewhere else and make it a powerhouse with a big budget?

I think they are fine right where they are!

But I do agree, it seems like there needs to be a line somewhere. It is not like the Marlins had no young talent and nothing but old guys.

though you have to think, what if after say 2009 the mets read the handwriting on the wall, and did the same basic thing? Traded Wright, Reyes, Krod, Beltran, santana, wagner, don’t sign Bay (and yes, I know I am getting some of my years mixed up most likely!)

But the point is, if they had the forethought to realize the shit storm coming and had taken bold action (I know, smart and bold is the antithesis of Wilpon), you could be seeing one hell of a young, affordable, team of the future on the field now. Or a craptastic one, but cheap none the less!

      1. SaltyGary

The problem is, you can’t move the team with that new stadium. Over 300m in public funds and the MLB doesn’t want that kind of heat.

What a complete mess, selling off every part for Yunel (I don’t like Gay People) Escobar and a couple prospects that aren’t considered can’t miss guys. It really isn’t that bad to be a Mets fan is it? Yea we don’t like Wilpon, but deep down I believe he cares about the fans and wants to put out a good product. Loria just doesn’t give a crap about anything but money.

        1. Stickguy

I thought about the stadium, but figured that if things get bad enough, something has to give.

and yeah, Loria seems to be sitting on his piles of cash, giving MLB (and the fans) a giant middle finger. he got his!

and I actually in theory support rebuilding when needed, but not this way, and it really was unnecessary given the foundation they had.

Wilpon always seemed to me more clueless than mean or greedy. But with a good heart.

        2. gategem

The Marlins have two WS titles since 2001 and that’s two more than the Mets have in the same period.

  20. Paul Festa

The Marlins traded away 1/5 of their 25-man roster!

But from the Blue Jays’ perspective, aren’t they doing the same thing the Marlins did last year? Weren’t Buerhle and Reyes (along with Heath Bell) supposed to make the Marlins World Series favorites?

The Jays are taking a risk with this deal, and it may just be a temporary boost to their fan base.

I spent some time in Toronto a couple of years ago, and they really do care about their Jays more than people realize. I’m sure they are happy now, but I’m not sure you can count on 3 players whose best years appear to be behind them.

    But anyway…MARLOLINS.

    1. TRS86

Actually I am comparing what they did with what the Dodgers did. Trade and FA are a little different IMO. Also the Jays had a little more talent to surround the additions than the Marlins did.

    2. gategem

With the RedSox retooling, the Yankees aging quickly with ownership attempting to reduce their payroll and the Rays with little fan support to allow for a proper operating budget perhaps the Jays feel this is a time to strike before order is once again restored in the AL East.
