    Congratulations to RA Dickey!

It was a landslide – as well it should have been.

      Seaver – Gooden – Dickey

      !!!!!

  2. SaltyGary

Awesome! Now trade him to Toronto for some catching.

    1. TX

      Woot on both!

      1. Stick

        you go gurl!

        1. TX

That’s grrrl. Or so the teeny boppers say.

          1. Stickguy

I have a soon to be 17 YO daughter. There are multiple variations on the spelling, which mean different things. It is quite a complicated sub-culture, let me tell you that.

    2. gategem

      :-)

  3. Prismo

I changed my mind, I don’t want to trade him anymore.

The Mets are going to suck regardless, we might as well keep our Cy Young winner!

    1. SaltyGary

NO YOU ARE FALLING INTO THE TRAP!!!!!!

      1. Prismo

The trap of holding onto a Cy Young pitcher instead of trading him for an average catcher and a who-knows prospect?

      2. kingman 26

        Yes, the trap of intelligence.

        It is a nice trap.

    2. srt

      This. This. This.

Although I didn’t want him traded, ever.

      1. Stick

if they are screwing up and pushing everything into the middle with Wright, might as well sign dickey too and have the next 3 years teams all locked up. And no new talent coming in for that long either.

  4. SaltyGary

What’s pretty amazing is the week he was signed it was nothing but penis jokes for a month and now the guy grabs the top honor at 38. Such a awesome story. I really wish the Mets weren’t in a position where it forces me to advocate trading him to help in other areas. I really think giving him a decent 4 year contract (or 3+ option) is really not out of line.

“I’m on board and I want to be part of the solution here”

“I like being a Met and I wouldn’t mind finishing my career as a Met”

No STOP must not listen, don’t want emotions taking over rational judgment!

      1. Prismo

        LOL

  6. kingman 26

As is often the case, Prismo leads the way.

Why ASSUME that Dickey is going to fade??

Sign Wright for 125 mil, who SUCKED for 3/4 of the last 2 years, or RA?

    Watch this space tomorrow.

    1. TX

2 years is such a small sample size though… ;)

      1. kingman 26

Yes sir, but four years is not.

Seriously, if they trade RA and give sucky Wright 7/125, I really might turn in my Met membership card after 39 years.

I think I might be serious.

        1. Prismo

7/125 on top of of the 1/16 for next season is just too much. I think he deserves 6/100 like Zimmerman got for the Nats. They’re pretty similar players and Wright’s slightly older.

    2. Hazmet

Well come on now, half a year with a broken back and nobody in the line up around him this past year when teams stated before every series “we’re not pitching to Wright”. Hopefully Ike or someone gives the opposition a little more to think about in 2013.

      1. kingman 26

Sorry Haz….a guy with the numbers Wright put up for 3/4 of the past two years getting 7/125 starting as he turns 31?

Only the Mets. Only the Mets.

If he is not good enough to take a zillion walks when he is not being pitched to–which, if this was the case, he was clearly NOT in the 2nd half of 2012–he ain’t worth 7/125.

Or even remotely close to it.

        1. Hazmet

          Wo, 7 for 125 I didn’t pick up on that. That’s loco.

  7. kingman 26

    Stick–Read this:

“I love the fan base, my family loves being a New York Met, being in New York and all the stuff it has to offer outside of baseball. It’s given me the platform to do things that far transcend the game. Whether it’s pouring myself into a charity I am really passionate about, or writing a memoir that I feel like needed to be written. All these things, I don’t know if I could’ve done them if it weren’t for New York and being a New York Mets. I am aware of that, and I am appreciative of that. Because of that, I like being a Met, and I wouldn’t mind finishing my career as a Met.”

Yes, NY offers opportunities other cities do not.

    1. TRS86

This is also the same guy that said he was kicked in the teeth, needed to see a plan, was a package deal with Wright, has now seen enough to know there is a very deliberate plan that is being followed and wouldn’t mind being a Met.

No offense but he’s all over the place almost like he is in a contract negotiation.

      1. Stick

        oh, snap.

      2. Stick

        I suppose I can elaborate on that…

Yes, this is the guy that was very vocal on calling out Sandy about not doing anything last year, etc.

Though I suppose that he is seeing the crayon on Jeffie’s wall that Wright is being signed to a dumbass deal. And if that is all he needs to be sold on the team being “serious” and having a “winning plan”, then I don’t think he is as smart as we assumed.

      3. kingman 26

I do not think he ever said he was a “package deal” and as I said at the time, money talks, RA might love the area, and regardless of what my wise colleague Stick might say, there is no city in America which serves as a platform for writers and charitable work on the same level as NYC. That simply is fact.

    2. Stick

well, I am glad he loves it so much. But, other cities certainly offer lots of opportunities too.

but to me, as much as I like him, it is more about what will make the team competitive before it am drooling in my ovaltine (well, more than usual…).

but, if he wants to be here that bad, step up and offer the mets a deal they can’t refuse. 2/20 extension + an option year?

      1. srt

If I’m not mistaken, Dickey said in his book that he’s had to move his family about 27 times in 13 years. Something tells me he’s seen more parts of this country than most have.

As far as the NY fans….maybe he should talk to Reyes about the difference of what it’s like to place in NY vs. somewhere like FL where they could care less about baseball.

After seeing that fire sale my Miami, I wonder how close it came to Dickey being traded to Miami? He’s right up Loria’s alley. 5 Million cheap for next season for actual talent.

  8. Paul Festa

Bloody awesome graphic! I really hope that’s what his Cy Young award looks like!

  9. Mr North Jersey

    Thx Paul.

  10. gategem

I also offer my congratulations to Dickey and hope the Mets trade him before his testosterone level drops and Mr. Dickey is diminished. :-)

    1. Stickguy

I don’t think Viagra is on the banned substance list, so he should be able to go on for a long time!
