“At some point we need resolution on these discussions to be able to move on. But that time is not now.” Alderson on Dickey/Wright talks
— Marc Carig (@MarcCarig) November 16, 2012
But Alderson says between Thanksgiving and winter meetings “we need to have… a little more clarity” on Dickey/Wright talks.
— Marc Carig (@MarcCarig) November 16, 2012
Alderson doesn’t think Dickey winning the Cy Young will significantly impact talks. He had already assumed Dickey would likely win.

So….what exactly is SA trying to say here?
My interpretation is those contract extensions better be pretty much in place heading into the winter meetings or both will move from the ‘we’re trying to sign them’ to the ‘we’re now aggressively shopping them’.
There’s no way with the little payroll flexibility they’ve got those contract negotiations can go on any longer than beginning of Dec – IMO.

Yeah, my interpretation is pretty much: “if those contract extensions aren’t in place by the Winter Meetings, don’t be surprised if Dickey and Wright are moved in short order”. I’m fine with that, as long as he gets good returns for them.

I think it needs to be obvious by the winter meetings whether they’ll resign or not because Sandy needs to have a plan for the entire offseason heading into the meetings and any plan is going to start with the status of those two players.
I don’t know if they’d be aggressively shopped at the meetings, but if an agreement isn’t a near certainty at that time then can get an idea of what certain teams can offer and start laying the foundation for a potential trade.

Folks–Sandy is a doubletalker and a BS artist of the highest quality.
Not saying he is a liar or a bad guy, but think about this statement:
“At some point we need resolution on these discussions to be able to move on. But that time is not now.”
It says NOTHING.
And we need a “little more clarity”??
This means NOTHING.
At this point, after “We’re buyers!” it is utterly pointless to listen to a WORD he says.
His actions have meaning; his words do not.
SIGN DICKEY.
TRADE WRIGHT.
Thank you and God bless.

Remember that Dino tweet last year about Reyes signing that turned out to be a false alarm?
You think maybe a practice run or two to get fans prepared for the reality that Wright, Dickey or both could be traded or that Wright, Dickey or both could be signed could help in preparing to accept one of these realities?
You know somewhere that Coste guy is preparing to let one loose.

I said this over at MMO but I want to also share it here.
I would expect that at some point the Mets would need resolution on these discussions to be able to move on. The talk all off season has been if the Mets are unable to resign either of the 2 to extensions then they would most likely consider trading them.
That the time is not now I don’t know how to interpret that other than what it says, the time is not now. The time may come at the start of or the end of the Winter Meetings or by Xmas or New Year’s Eve.
The only other quote was that they “need to have” then it goes off to nowhere and ends with “a little more clarity”.
It is as the title of the post suggests a line in the sand but a line I would think most expected to begin with.

I’m not sure why so many Met fans seems to be bent out of shape on these SA quotes. Not sure what they expect to hear.
- Mets org already said they’d like to extend both and are trying to work towards it.
- They also said payroll flexibility is a problem.
- They’ve freed up some money with the delay on paying off Bay but not much.
- These latest quotes shouldn’t be much of a surprise. There is no way they have the flexibility to allow them to drag on all winter.
Bottom line is going to be – depending on what camp you’re in:
- extend both
- trade both
- extend Wright, trade Dickey
- extend Dickey, trade Wright
…there will be some angry Met fans when all is said and done who are not happy with the final results.
I guess that will give us all something to ‘debate’ about all winter…..

Because the above quotes–if accurate–are nonsense. Meaningless drivel.
I have heard enough of it already.
If there’s nothing to say, don’t say anything.
“At some point we need resolution on these discussions to be able to move on. But that time is not now.”
This is worthy of a successful politician. It’s laughable. It insults my intelligence and I would think it should insult your considerable intelligence too.

But I do think there is a pattern at work, whether it is Reyes, 2012 payroll, the trade deadline, or now this…the story keeps changing as they string us along and try to delay the inevitable as long as possible.

Well, maybe because my expectations of what a FO is actually going to tell the general fan base might be much lower than most. LOL It’s all blah, blah, blah right now.
Someone ping me when we actually make a move one way or the other.

Perhaps Sandy is one of the many that believe the Mayan calendar predicts the end of the world on December 21st and as such believes that any movement on a contract extension or trade before that date would be superfluous. Thus if we all awaken on December 22nd then we can expect a resolution.
