This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty: The ” Happy Thanksgiving” Edition 11-22-12

Before I head out to work I just wanted to wish the readers of The Real Dirty Mets Blog – as well as my fellow writers here and my fellow bloggers from such sites as Mets Blog, Mets Police, On The Black, Metsmerized, Kranepool Society and Macks Mets (to name a few) a happy and healthy Thanksgiving. I am thankful to be able to write about my favorite team as well as have formed friendships with many of you.

Ed ” Rustyjr” Marcus.

And with that said… HERE COMES THE INFAMY !!!!

Mets alumni celebrating a birthday today includes:

Current Mets General Manager, Sandy Alderson is 65 (1947). Hopefully Sandy will be given the resources to field a team that is at the very least competitive for the entire season – instead of the recent norm of second half tailspins.

Reserve outfielder from the ’73 season, Rich Chiles is 63 (1949).

Middle reliever from the ’92 season, Lee Guetterman is 54 (1958).

Middle reliever from ’87-’88, Gene Walter is 52 (1960).

Mets outfielder from ’98-’02, Jay Payton is 40 (1972). Don’t we all wish the the Mets had a center fielder  like Payton on the major league roster now ?

Reserve outfielder from ’06-’07, Ricky Ledee is 39 (1973).

The Baltimore Orioles signed starting pitcher, Sid Fernandez of the New York Mets as a free agent on November 22, 1993. I was saddened when the Mets let Sid leave for free agency. Sid had a few good seasons with the Orioles before injuries took their toll on his hulking frame.

The New York Mets signed free agent pitcher, Mike Remlinger on November 22, 1993. In his 2 years with the Mets, Remlinger went 1-6 with an E.R.A of 4.77.

The San Diego Padres claimed spot starter/middle reliever, Jason Middlebrook of the New York Mets on waivers on November 22, 2000.

The Tampa Bay Devil Rays signed starting pitcher, Jason Roach of the New York Mets as a free agent on November 22, 2004. Roach only appeared in 2 games in his Mets career. His record was 0-2 with an E.R.A of 12.00.

Mo Vaughn is preparing a ham, pumpkin pie, salad, turkey and all the trimmings. And thats just for BREAKFAST !!!!!

Ha! So that is what a baseball turkey looks like.

    :-)

You have a Happy Thanksgiving Day as well Rusty.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours, Rusty!
    - Along with all my fellow Met fans.

I’m thankful my house is still standing after the hurricane but I’d me a lot more thankful if we had a couple of contract extensions worked out.

    Enjoy the day.

Happy Thanksgiving, Ed! And to all of the rest of you fine folks!

May your holiday be filled with beer and wine instead of family feuding. :)

Hope all of you had a Happy Thanksgiving!

As we wish you the same. Hopefully we can unite when the World Seires goes our way again.

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and for any Jets fan that didn’t consume enough Turkey yesterday the Jets served their fans an ample portion of Turkey mixed with Crow. Fortunately while I’m somewhat ambivalent about the Jets fortunes the Giants playoff picture received a boost with the Cowboys loss. Now the Giants must take advantage of this and win on Sunday. Now back to the Jets. For anyone that didn’t see this play it will enter the NFL Bloopers Hall of Fame and forever be representative of this sad sack franchise.

Well as Mel Allen used to say “How About That.” Damn I made it to my 70th birthday.

This article in the NY Times is speculation and hearsay but interesting nonetheless.

Gate–as our senior commenter, your perspective, knowledge, wisdom, and humor are truly valued here.

Happy birthday to you sir, and MANY more.

Thanks again for being here Gate; as Tupac used to say, you are appreciated.

Thank you very much. I’m the first male in my family to make it to 70 and I probably take the least care of myself. One concession I made many years ago was I stopped consuming alcohol but as I once related I didn’t give it up for health reasons. A friend was a part time actor in soaps and he would graciously get me invited to some of their parties. I would always wake up in a strange bed with two or more of the most attractive females one can imagine laying beside me. They would smile at me, imitate a tiger growling and give me the thumbs up sign. But to this day I have no recollection of what occurred and apparently I missed some of the best times of my life. I find it incredible I lasted to 30 and find it defies all odds that I lasted until 70. BTW when I was younger Tupac was a misspelling. :-)

gategem – I love your stories. You should write an autobiography – I’d certainly buy it.

          3. kingman 26

Funny, your story makes me think back to the 1990s, when I was in my late 20s/early 30s, and played in a popular band in Seattle at the height of the Seattle Grunge Music Scene.

I would cut one of my legs off with a rusty hack saw and no anaesthetic to re-live those years.

And as for Tupac, he did often go by 2Pac, but his mother did in fact name him Tupac, after a Latin American revolutionary.

And he loved his Mama, so I go with her spelling. He is probably my all-time favorite rapper. Me Against the World and All Eyez On Me are just plain amazing.

Again Gate, I think I can speak for all of us in saying how much you are valued here and that we all hope you are here to help celebrate the next Met title and far beyond.

Kong, did not someone construct a holographic image of Tupac performing on stage?

Larry Hagman, of “Dallas” fame (J.R. Ewing), passed away. I remember him in his role as Major Anthony “Tony” Nelson on “I Dream of Jeannie.” “Jeannie” was best remembered for the incredibly beautiful Barbara Eden who portrayed Jeannie. Hagman was the son of the great Broadway Musical star and icon, Mary Martin.

          5. kingman 26

I am just 46 but I remember thinking Barbara Eden was hot when I watched reruns as a kid.

As for Tupac, yes sir, he “performed” at the Coachella Festival in CA last spring with Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre with whom he had some big songs (one massive hit with Dre, California Love)—they called it a hologram, but I think it may have been some sort of slightly different technique which was referred to as a hologram, but was more like something where his image was reflected onto a screen.

His mother works very hard to keep his music, persona, and legacy alive. She even has an education center that teaches kids all forms of the arts. The fact that Tupac died at 25 really is unreal.
