Some of the comments Ed Coleman made.
- Believes Jeff Wilpon & Sandy Alderson were having conversations with the Levinsons (Wright’s agents) on the way, during and after attending a fund raiser for Mets Media Relations person Shannon Forde with things coming together late either on the way home or at home.
- There was a lot of deferred money in the 1st offer the $140M offer. Enough that it put it well below Johan Santana’s contract which was a benchmark for Wright’s side. A lot then changed making it more present day value and then things came together.
- Coleman says David requested the contract arc downward where most of the money comes early or in the middle rather than toward the end of the contract because he does not want to hold the team back from possibly doing something later in his career which may help the team.
- Doesn’t believe Wright contract will affect R.A. Dickey negotiations.

that seems to answer 2 questions
1) Wilpon was in the middle of this, and it was not all Sandy
2) Wright actually does care about the team, and trying to help them win, not just every last $
I am quite curious to see what the actual terms of the deal are. I don’t think that has been published?

Though his name has yet to come up I would not rule out Ricco having a big part in how this contract was structured as well.
