    Cool.

Getting a chuckle out of the tweets on the Victorino signing:

AmazinAvenueAmazinAvenue: Shane Victorino should solve all of the Red Sox’ clubhouse problems by uniting the rest of the team in unflinching hatred of him.

JonHeymanCBS: imagine if shane victorino actually had a good year. prudential tower would have been his.

    1. Stick

he was really crapping last year. I posted #s the other day that his stint in LA was almost an exact copy of Torres with the mets.

On another topic, Dickey trade. We haven’t discussed it enough.
I read that the Dodgers offered Gordon and their top pitching prospect and the Dbacks are holding back on a SS for Upton. Time for a three way.

    Mets get Upton
    Dodgers get Dickey
Arizona gets Lee, Gordon and Flores.

    1. Stick

man, you need to get over this obsession with Justin man. It is starting to get creepy.

      1. Stick

sorry for the double mans. The executive editor is going to be all over me for that one.

      2. TRS86

We need an OF something serious and I think he would do well with Wright.

        1. Stick

they never played together. Wright was close to BJ. Justin must have been the annoying little kid following them around.

  3. TRS86

Also back to KC. I think I have changed my mind.

Dickey for Gordon and reliever , money spent on Dickey plus new OF pays for Gordon.

    Or
Niese for Myers and use OF money to lock up Dickey for 3 years?

    Thoughts?

    1. TX

In this scenario, I prefer to trade Niese. Then sign Lannan.

      1. TX

        Though Gordon is very nice.

      2. Stick

I like the idea of lannan coming in. He could be primed for his career years (assuming he is ever going to have some).

    2. Stick

I admit that I have not done exhaustive research (that is why we have the intern staff, right?) but something about Myers makes me a little nervous, worried that he is the hot ticket but may be a 1-year PCL wonder.

is he a lock? Are the Ks a big honking red flag? Is the rest of his game (baserunning, defense) worth the price?

and I am honestly wondering if you are giving up a lot for him, how close is that to getting you stanton instead?

      1. TRS86

You think Niese get you even Stanton’s shoes?

        1. Stick

Well, it is Miami, so who knows what the hell will happen. And most likely, it would be a flip (or 3 way deal).

In any case, if we are discussing prying Myers loose, might as well see what it would take for Stanton.

      2. wanny

he was hurt in 2011. his ks are not an issue because he walks too and hits for average. he is supposed to be solid defensively in all three outfield positions. he has even played 3B.

I doubt you can get him for niese.

        1. Stick

          Thanks, intern!

OK, I am sold again. Tell Sandy to get it done.

    3. wanny

one of the reporters tweeted a text message today from a KC staffer which states “yes, yes, yes” to the question of whether myers is too much for dickey.

outside the box idea… minny is reportedly shopping ben revere to boost its organizational pitching (olney). he’d be a nice fit in our big outfield for his defense and his contact hitting and speed. while we need power (he has none), we also don’t have a legitimate leadoff hitter. he is a lefty but demonstrated no split at all.

mets certainly have the depth in their system to trade a B+ and a B pitching prospect for a kid who can hit .300 and play great defense and steal bases.

      1. TRS86

Hey, make your own hijack… Lol.

Sure trade for him too but then still trade Dickey or Niese… Lol.

        1. wanny

i wouldn’t think trading robles and mchugh (or something like that) for revere would preclude moving dickey for something bigger. it might even enable the mets to deal dickey for a couple of pieces a little further away because at least CF would be locked up.

          1. Stick

I could go for someone like that. Assuming they can get some real hitters for the corner, a big speed guy for CF sounds good if he can actually field and get on base. And if he is coming for a moderate price, all the better.

          2. TX

I think this team needs to do that concept. Turning a couple middling prospects into someone on the major league level.

          3. Stick

tex, especially if it is a “real” player. I never heard of this guy, but it sounds like it would fill a couple of holes (legit CF and a lead off hitter).

Then Kirk can be a 4th OF or a LF or RF platoon with a RH batter brought in (Hairston?)

          4. TX

            Good suggestion, Wanny.

      2. Stick

I looked up revere. Man, talk about powerless. He makes Castillo look like Bonds in his big-head days!

He does have speed, but his OBP was pretty weak for a guy with zippo power. But, still young, and I assume a high-end glove?

If we are talking about some 2nd tier pitching for him, why not? unless you think the output from a guy like Den Dekker (who is supposed to be a really good ML level CF already) is going to give you close to as much, in a different way?

        1. wanny

.383 MiLB OBP and just as many walks as whiffs suggests the best yet to come from revere. still young.

          1. Stick

see below. I gave him to you. You are welcome.

  4. kingman 26

    Nah, not Dickey for Upton.

Niese for Myers? Probably have to do that.

The Victorino signing? More proof that baseball’s economics are headed into another era of insanity.

    1. wanny

You wouldn’t deal Dickey for Upton?

I’d probably do that and run… Upton’s 3 for 38 remaining is a steal if he performs to his ability. he’s only 25. plays good defense. sell high… buy low. I’d love it. this guy is one yr removed from mvp votes.

      1. Stick

I might have to do that, and I am really unsure what the hell to expect out of Upton, especially outside of AZ

If nothing else, his contract is a steal if Vickey is getting paid more than he is!~

      2. kingman 26

It’s tough, but I guess I look at his being pretty so-so two of the last three years, and I think that adding his bat while subtracting Dickey might make this team a lot worse.

And his splits are almost Coors-like.

Just not a huge fan of the idea of Dickey or Niese for Upton or the idea of Upton in Citi.

I just think this team needs to build around its one strength rather than breaking it up.

        1. Stick

at least Upton has a contract that makes it realistic. and is pretty tradeable in the future.

          1. kingman 26

Well, he is owed $38.5 mil the next three years which probably makes this debate irrelevant.

          2. wanny

            indeed. sad but true.

          3. Stick

should fit. They would be removing another 5mill for the DIckster. And supposedly freed up some from Wright, and of course Bay. At most, it could mean a slight borrow from 2014, but nothing crazy.

Actually, I just looked it up, and it is really a non-issue. He only makes 9.75 in 2013, so very easy to fit in.

          4. TRS86

Then we most likely will trade Dickey for prospects because we can’t afford him either.

        2. srt

Have to agree with Kingman here.

If we’re trading for one of Dickey or Niese, I’d rather shoot higher than Upton, even if we have to package something else to go with one of them.

That Myers kid makes me drool thinking about him in the Citi OF.

    2. gategem

Even with the TV money you wonder if the economy goes south with double-dip recession and the attendance drops off will some of these teams have to fight for financial survival?

  5. Stick

OK, lets where we are now. I think plan QP (you know how in excel when you run out of columns, it doubles up the letters?0

Trade a arm (Forski? Mchugh?) for Ben revere for Wanny. Trade Dickey for Upton for TRS. Sign Lannan, for shats and grins.

    out lineup now is,

    same IF
    OF of duda/RH guy (Hairston?)/revere/Upton
    SP harvey/neise/gee/santana/lannan (Mejia/wheeler)
    Pen, sure why not.

OF: well, 2 guys to cover for Duda. IF: pretty good. Rotation: still respectable. Pen: sure, why not.

    Revere – L (no splits)
    Murphy – L
    Wright – R
    Ike – L
    Upton – R
    Duda – L
Catcher – platoon (screw it, Perzynski)
    Tejada

well, better than last year for sure. Speed up top, power 3-6.

If they can manage to also sign AJP to catch (hey, I need something here too!) this is a pretty damned good lineup that should score plenty of runs .

the rotation can at least keep them in games. So just need to nail down a few better pen arms.

also possible that Duda gets moved, so LF changes (maybe replace him with Kirk in the platoon).

Kirk/revere/upton, that at least takes care of the terrible OF D!

    1. TX

Now, if you move Flores, Duda, and a pitcher of some worth (Mejia or Familia, for lack of me bothering to research) + another decent prospect (Tapia? Pill?) and you get Vinnie and Choo from CLE, then that would make the offense potent, based on your lovely scenario listed above. If you can get for less, as my trade judgement skills are Neanderthal at best, all the better.

      1. Stick

I like the idea of vinnie, but Choo I pass on. ALready blowing the budget, and he is a 1 year rental. I would rather spend the money on AJP.

        1. TX

In my scenario, I have sold an additional 20 million dollar share to cover the extra costs, so it’s all good.

          1. Stick

I like the way you think. So lets get both, though I still am not sold on choo, but mostly because I believe right now if they are trading valuable parts it needs to be for more that 2 years, and 1 year only guys should be FA only.

          2. gategem

Why not hold a séance and sign Ruth and Gehrig? You might have to obtain their rights from the Yankees.

It seems you guys are ingesting your special brand of oatmeal every morning. :-)

I say roid the hell out of Piazza and bring him back. :)
