Yea, they are hotties just like David. I got $300 in mlb.com dollars sitting around from my MEts CC and I think I need to get one of these. I got a Ike in the cream pinstripes and then Korean knockoffs of Alfonzo and Reyes. I think I maybe need to get a los Harvey.

It’s a toss up for me but if I had to pick one, think I like the New York better over the Mets.
I want one. It’s on my Xmas list. Actually, I really want a Dickey one but I’m hesitant on that for obvious reasons. I’ll buy one and the next day, he’ll probably be traded. lol.

That’s the same reason I won’t touch that. Even if they extend him, it doesn’t mean he won’t get traded this season.

Wright saying the ‘plan’ going forward had everything to do with his decision to sign the new contract.
Said it was very specific and it’s not just short term for the big club, it’s long term that includes the minors as well.
Man, to have been a fly on the wall to hear those details he was told….

Wilpon says payroll will increase in 2014. Call me a fool, but I believe him. Lying about it would accomplish nothing. Fans aren’t going to show up until the team performs regardless.

I don’t want them to spend money just for the sake of spending but if it’s really there next year…they’d damn well better go out and get good talent for the money, especially for whatever needs we’ll have.

What happened to the patient approach while the team rebuilt from the bottom-up? Now it’s about trading pitching prospects and spending money. I don’t exactly see Seaver, Koosman, Gentry and Ryan out there. Wouldn’t it make sense to establish a young rotation before trading off the prospects? You can’t appoint Harvey as the next 20 game winner just yet.

12/5/2012-3:07pm at 3:07 pm (UTC -4)
how long can you wait before bringing in some talent to go with the rotation?
Assume Wheeler comes up at the ASB. And stays. In 2014, you will then have Harvey in his 3rd year, Wheeler in his 2nd, and Niese and Gee as grizzled old veterans (not to mention Dickey if still around).
If they are actually producing, it seems silly to throw away another year and go with a $50 mill payroll wiating for 2 of them to win cy youngs 1st!

Before the Mets made a successful run at the pennant Tom Seaver had two complete years under his belt and Jerry Koosman had one complete season in the majors. In both cases that had established themselves as outstanding pitchers, Seaver in two AS games and Koosman in one AS game. Before they reached the majors there was none of this can’t miss bs associated with either one. If I felt so inclined (which I don’t) I can use the majority of the bandwidth of this site and prepare a huge list of can’t miss pitchers that did for one reason or another. Harvey and Wheeler should at least duplicate what Seaver and Koosman accomplished before you start trading away the so called surplus pitching. And if you use Doc Gooden as a point of reference note that talent wise both Harvey and Wheeler are an order of magnitude below the nineteen year old Gooden. Gooden’s physical talent compared with some of the all time greats I have seen over the years (Koufax, Bob Feller, Herb Score, etc).
Stick
12/5/2012-8:21pm at 8:21 pm (UTC -4)
who said anything about trading away surplus pitching? More like they would have some extra cash available so they could actually be active in going after some players, most likely in FA, since that is the normal way to spend money.

12/5/2012-8:39pm at 8:39 pm (UTC -4)
Since I’ve been reading the comments (okay that may be a mistake) and articles in some of the Mets blogs (including this one) there have been numerous comments (and no I’m not going to list them all) on trading the young pitching surplus in the minors to try and staff the positions where the Mets are lacking. Now there is nothing wrong with this philosophy but I just think they should wait an additional year to determine just who the surplus pitchers are.
I fear that the Mets will start throwing money at FAs and once again short change themselves when it comes to obtaining quality prospects through the draft and via IFAs.

According to many, you can’t rely on prospects from a Wright or Dickey trade to ever develop because prospects are a craps shoot, but Harvey and Wheeler are guaranteed MLB co-aces for years to come which is why the team is only a couple players away from being a perennial contender starting in 2013.
At least that’s what I’m getting from all sorts of blog posts and twitter comments.

From 1972 through 1976 the Mets had effectively three co-aces in Seaver, Koosman and Matlack. Yet they only won the division in 1973 and that was basically a freak year in that all the teams in the division were mediocre.

At this point in time after so many comments I should have realized the true nature of your comment. As penance for my stupidity I will banish myself to MMO.
BTW why the love affair with bleeping dimples? It’s a bleeping curse. As a youngster all my aunts and older cousins would pinch my cheek, say how cute I was and give me a great big slobbering kiss. It became so that when I knew they were about to visit I would hide for the day. Fortunately, my mom sympathized with me and would tell them I was busy with homework or some such explanation.

Dickey himself told Jim Bowden of ESPN.com and SiriusXM that he feels like he and the Mets are “inching toward” an extension (Twitter link). The knuckleballer also spoke to ESPN.com’s Buster Olney, repeating that he’s “hopeful” about a deal with the Mets, but understands that it’s Sandy Alderson’s job to make the Mets better (Twitter link).

Oh boy, Jeff calling the team a ‘playoff team’.
Stick
12/5/2012-1:30pm at 1:30 pm (UTC -4)
why not?
remember, last year going into the ASB there was a perception that the Mets were legit 9and could stay in the playoff race). And as the anti-Sandy crowd likes to point out, if he had nly picked up a couple of reinforcements, the team was ready to make the playoffs.
at least, that is how I have to interpret saying not getting a couple of filler parts at the deadline took them out of the running (sandy “gave up” on the team so they foled). Even though he added the 2nd best SP on the team post-deadline. and a big upgrade to the pen.
by that logic, and since that crowd will tell you they are never long, they just need a few better replacement parts this year to be a playoff team, right?

If you read the whole history of events with the Dickey thread on MLBTR, it’s like everyone is just throwing anything they can against the wall and if it sticks, they look like geniuses and if it doesn’t, it doesn’t matter because 50 others failed as well. Sad state of journalism.

Well, I certainly prefer it here, but over much of the last year, many TRDMB regulars have been absent or at the BayAlex site, and I never will waste more than a few minutes a month there.
The more active it is here, the more I will be here.
But Metsblog’s comment community has dozens of great people—I learn about the draft, other teams’ prospects, our prospects, new stats, and so many things there.
Really, I almost always read the headlines, then shield my eyes while heading for the comment section.

They’re saying Zack Greinke might get a contract higher than CC’s $161MM deal. Greinke has a 3.83 ERA over the past 3 seasons.
How do the Mets not get at least 1 top top prospect for RA Dickey at $5MM for a year?
