Royals Back In For Dickey?

R.A. Dickey Rumors: Friday

According to reports collected on MLBTR the Royals are “very” interested in Dickey.   Same story of course that they are not interested however in sending Myers in that deal.  What else could the Mets look to get from the Royals in return?

    gordon for niese do ittt

I would certainly entertain Gordon for Dickey. Not taking on Gordon’s cash and trading cost effective Niese AND re-signing Dickey.

      Oh and Welcome!

Now that would be OK with me. Though I would prefer Myers or that Perez kid. It almost makes more sense that way for the Royal, based on the fact they are saying the Royals are at their limit in salary. Gordon make 9 Mil, this year, then 10, 12.5 & 12.5 as a team option.

      1. Q-Rod

Gordon makes sense for the Mets, too, since he’s a proven commodity and cost controlled.

I have faith in Sandy as a negotiator. I believe he will get the best possible return for the services of RA Dickey. The issue will be whether his staff can appropriately evaluate the talent – and barring an offer that blows the Mets away (eg, Myers, Profar) – its going to be tricky.

Looking at their baseball prospectus top 10… there’s not as much there as I would like past Myers and Bubba Starling whom they also say isn’t likely to be traded.

    1. TRS86

Actually looking at Fangraphs top 15:
      http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/kansas-city-royals-top-15-prospects/

Without including Myers or Bubba I don’t see a fit at all in their minors.

    2. Prismo

Myers or bust! Myers or bust!

    3. wanny

Jake Odorizzi and other pitching prospects are intriguing, as is Christian Colon.

However, the fan base will revolt if there is not a major league ready outfielder in the mix.

      1. Q-Rod

Absolutely. The Mets as an organization might be best served with a package of three nice lower level minor leaguers but the reality is that they will need to get a guy who will have an immediate impact.

      2. Stick

or that perez guy. A ML ready catcher, that is actually pretty good, would do wonders to placate the masses.

    4. wanny

I don’t care if it takes Starling 3 years to make it. It seems like he has MVP upside and you trade a 38 year old from a 4th place team for a guy like that every time.

  4. Reese

Dickey, Thole (personal catcher) and Flores for Salvador Perez

    1. TRS86

I don’t think they have any intentions of trading Perez considering the current catching market.

So Valdespin tweeted a photo of himself wearing a Marlins cap. http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/mets/post/_/id/59313/spin-tweet-irks-some-mets-fans

    1. TX

He wants to be included in the package that nets LoMo or Stanton. And for that, I say, thank you Spin.

    2. darknova306

He can wear whatever cap he wants as long as he’s not wasting space on the Mets’ major league roster next year.

    3. wanny

Ditto to the last two comments.

    4. srt

I’m in agreement with the comments here.

      What a dummy…..

Had to laugh at some of the tweets in response to this pic, such as:

‘“Apparently the one major leaguer who wants to wear a Marlin’s hat.” ‘

      1. greggofboken

The headline reads “Spin Tweet Irks Some Mets Fans”.

It’s not the tweet. It’s the tweeter.

      2. TX

Prob found it in the dumpster or the clearance rack. Buy 1, get 8 free…

  6. Stick

oh come on. this is all posturing. They were never out.

Daily News Live John Harper just reported that the Met’s ownership is having a personal issue with Dickey that’s interferring with negotiations. Wney pressed further he said the infamous “some people in the know close to the situation” think Alderson wants to resign Dickey and onwership wants him gone.

    1. Stick

what the hell for? Because he had the balls to make some actual comments about the direction of the team?

If a stand up guy like Dickey that happens to actually say something that is not a cliche is too much for the owners to handle, then we are more F’cked than I thought.

More and more, I am seeing this as the $s get stabilized, Sandy has enough after 1 more year and wanders back to MLB headquaters (if Bud retires) and Jeffy decides to really take back over.

      1. TX

        abandon ship when that happens.

Ding ding ding!!! We have a winner!!! Kong knows what the hell is up!

        3. Hazmet

The other speculation on one of the SNY shows was that they Yankee’s are getting ready to sell the team in the next couple of years since George’s kids really aren’t that interested in the business of baseball. That is why they are not going crazy on spending this off year and are even entertaining moving assets like Granderson and they let Martin walk. The bad thing for us is any major ownership group like Cuban that we might dream of having for the Met’s will try to go all in on getting the Yankee’s instead and will keep pincing the pennies in Flushing with Fred and Jeff.

          1. Stick

I was wondering that about the Yankees too. Makes some sense. Not that uncommon for 2nd generations to not have an interest in “Dad’s company”.

and they have been around long enough to have burned out on it if they are going to. So, knowing they can cash out for a huge $ amount and spend the rest of their lives just being gadabouts, why not?

          2. srt

You know Stick….I can only hope that’s the case when old man Fred is no longer with us and Jeff inherits.
Please just sell the team. The more I read about that ‘kid’ the more I really, really dislike him. It’s the classic case of someone with a chip on their shoulder, always out to show the world just how smart they are, which will always fail b/c they’re just not.

        4. gategem

          St. Dimples!!!! LMAO

      3. Hazmet

Yes, we are F’d an inverse proportional amount to the available $’s which is nil so we b scrooged.

The basis was that they were a bit tired of Dickey’s self promotion and chatiness. What a bunch of a-holes. Or as my wife said when she watched this with me, “the guy was sexually abused as a kid and had to overcome that growing up with a last name of Dickey give the f’in guy a break and layoff”.

      4. srt

I really, really wish Selig would have stayed out of it and then maybe the Wilpons would have been forced to sell.

The thought of Jeff owning this team makes my stomach turn.

    2. darknova306

Wow, what a shock! Mets ownership is meddling with the front office…? GASP!! HOW FU#$ING SHOCKING!! HOW COULD THIS EVER HAPPEN?!? THIS IS UNPOSSIBLE!! HOLY FU#$ING SH#TBALLS!!

      1. darknova306

Sorry… lost my head there. This ownership just sucks so bad…

I know you can’t believe anything you hear from some dumbass writer, but the thought of Jeff Wilpon meddling with the Mets’ front office is hard NOT to believe. Anyway, it’s obvious they should have traded Wright and should trade Dickey, but because it’s obvious they’ll do neither of those things.

Who has the mai tais? Let’s do this, folks!

        1. Hazmet

lol, oh that was great….because it’s true.
Only our ownership could try to pick a fight with their first 20 game / Cy Young winner in ages. It’s just really, just, wow.

          1. gategem

The truly sad part is the symbiotic relationship between Selig and Wilpons. Although it flies in the face of physical science each of them is an appendage of the other.

        2. srt

‘This ownership just sucks so bad…’

You’ll get no argument from me on this statement.

    3. srt

Haz…was this on twitter or in a story Harper wrote?
I can’t find anything on it.

Or did you see an interview on air with Harper who then made this comments.

      1. darknova306

Haz said Daily News Live, so I guess it was the SNY sports talk show. One of the nice things about not having tv right now is not wasting time watching those dumb shows just because of my need for baseball. :p

        1. srt

          Oops, I missed the ‘Live’.
          Yes, it’s an SNY show.

I did find an article though where Harper mentioned some of this:

          http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/haper-mets-team-knuckle-pact-article-1.1215205

‘Again, what’s the problem? It doesn’t appear the Mets are merely stalling while gauging the trade market. Instead, there seems to be a split in the front office as to whether to trade Dickey or not, and indications are that GM Sandy Alderson is in favor of signing him.’

‘Some Mets people even hint at some sort of behind-the scenes issue between Dickey and ownership that has had an impact on negotiations.’

  8. TX

So, If the Rangers sign Dickey, that leaves the Dodgers (who have nothing we really want, other than may Ethier), the Royals, The BJs and possibly the Angels, though their rotation seems to be set.

    I’m guessing Dickey is resigned.

    1. Stick

      you meant signed Grinke, right?

I can live with him being signed for a couple of more years. Still tradable.

and don’t discount some unexpected team sneaking in to get into the action.

trade him or extend him, but I will lose the last little bit of my sanity if they just screw the pooch and vapor lock and just defer deciding until after next season.

      1. TX

        Yes. Bad typing. Grienke.
