Some Reactions From Today’s Tragic Shooting In Connecticut

This Friday morning 11 days from Xmas all over the country a normal routine that many parents are all too well familiar with took place of getting up and getting their kids ready and dropping them off to where parents feel their kids will be a safe, school.

In a small school in Newtown Connecticut though something that is just not supposed to happen occurred and soon after 9:30am this morning the news started to break out all over the country. A shooter or shooters as details are still coming out went into an elementary school and soon after shots rang out and when they stopped the body count resulting from this was at least 27 dead with at least 18 of them being children.

I can tell you as a parent waking up to this my heart just wept profusely when I thought of those parents running to the school looking for their kids praying their child was not among the 18. I know sports is supposed to be a break from such ugly realities but I write this to offer my most heartfelt deepest deepest condolences to all the victims from this tragic day. About now all over the country kids will start to be let out from school. When your child comes home be thankful, hold them and tell them you love them cause tomorrow is never promised to no one.

Here are some reactions from around twitter about today’s sad news.

I just don’t know how I am going to pick up my kids and hug them without breaking down and freaking them out. I also grew up just south of this town. This is going to be a scare that will never heal.

every time you think you have seen the worst, someone comes along to top the last lunatic. scary enough someone could be so unhinged from whatever to kill his parents, but 20 innocent kids too? Just unfathomable.

And yes, as a parent, it is scary every time the kids leave the house now.

I was out all day shopping and heard nothing about this until we got home at 3 and I saw some references on a comments thread, and have been watching on TV for a while now. Just depressing, and so sad for these poor families.

    What a horrible tragedy.
So hard to be reading and seeing all this.

You can’t go to a school, movie theater, grocery store, mall, post office, pharmacy without worrying about being killed.

    What is wrong with people?

there always were tragedies though. You just hear a lot more about them, but it does seem that the numbers involved keep going up (probably thanks to “improvements” in weapons technology).

        I agree.
50 years ago, I probably would have never heard about the idiot in China who knifed 22 kids day before yesterday…..

I’ve said it before…mental illness is an epidemic in this country. Time to stop going around those affected and get serious about getting them treatment and help.
