Did Joel Sherman Predict The Future?

I came across this article today while surfing the Mets articles on MLBTR:

Market suggests Mets could cash in on Dickey deal

In the article Sherman assesses the following:

The recent influx of talent plus a strong system leaves Toronto with, among other things, two power-hitting young catchers in Travis d’Arnaud and J.P. Arencibia (drafted by Ricciardi), two athletic center fielders in Rajai Davis and Anthony Gose, and two high-end pitching prospects who just completed Low-A, Noah Syndergaard and Aaron Sanchez.

Several executives I spoke to said they could not imagine Toronto giving up a player from each of those subsets for Dickey in just 2013, but believe it would be more open-minded to doing so if Dickey were willing to do an extension. The Mets could use the catcher and center fielder now, and hope the high-end young starter eventually joins Matt Harvey and Zack Wheeler in a powerful rotation.

Wow, so this is basically exactly how it turned out minus Gose of course.  Did Sherman just guess right or was it clear that there was a framework for the deal even back pre-Thanksgiving?

IDK…I saw quotes from Toronto’s GM AA just last week where he said D’Arnaud was untouchable in any trade.

So either AA changed his mind or Sherman got lucky with his speculation. And let’s face it, we’ve seen all these writers make all kinds of speculation on who would be a great fit for what team.

I’m going with Sherman got lucky.

I go with the throwing crap on the wall to see what sticks idea.

but what this really points out to me? How sucky the Met system has been for so long. Just sad that other teams, even ones that were not crap for years like the Nats, manage to have multiple high end prospects, even positional ones, to use or trade, and the Mets hav Spin and Den Dekker types.

Dickey extension is complete. The trade is a done deal!

      Just saw that on MLBTR.

Still don’t know who the non elite prospects are.

I take that as meaning it’s really not worth worrying about them.

      can’t get there from here.

      what did he sign for?

I knew that it was going to happen. He was really clear about wanting the money locked up now. Hey, even he knows that a 38 YO pitcher is a big risk!

        Not announced yet.

I can’t blame Dickey, especially at his age. He probably knows this is his one and only shot at a big contract to set him and his family up for life.

I’m willing to bet it’s more than the Mets were offering him and probably more than he was asking for from the Mets.
