The Mets made it official today announcing a 7 player trade with the Toronto Blue Jays that saw Cy Young winner R.A. Dickey, catchers Josh Thole and Mike Nickeas sent to Toronto in exchange for what many consider is the best catching prospect in the minors Travis d’Arnaud, THE Jays top pitching prospect hard throwing right-hander Noah Syndergaard, catcher John Buck and young Venezuelan OF Prospect Wuilmer Becerra.

I listened to Alderson’s remarks and read Rubin’s notes from Anthopoulos.
The most fascinating thing to me is that per Anthopoulos, d’Arnaud was on the table a full 10 days before the deal got finalized. The thing that sealed the deal was the addition of Syndergaard. For over a week, Alderson had d’Arnaud in his back pocket and didn’t budge.
As well, he had d’Arnaud locked in before he decided to make the most recent offer to Dickey.
Anthopoulos had no issue w/the tactic since when shopping Halladay two prospects was his prerequisite as well.
I’m glad to hear Alderson’s acknowledged that he needs to bring in a starter w/a guaranteed spot for the rotation — that Mejia’s function is as insurance.
