Well there is less than two months until Spring Training begins and three months until Opening Day yet the Mets still have yet to unfurl a slogan for the upcoming season.
I figured that I would submit 5 possible slogans to the Mets and see if they liked any of them enough to mount a campaign with.
Here are the 5 in no particular order.
5. ” Crazy Freddie – His Opening Day ticket prices are INSANE !!!”
4. ” 2013 - Come See concerts by the likes Survivor, Loverboy and Peter Limoncello !”
3. “2013 – Outfielders – We don’t need no stinking outfielders !”
2. ” I have a fever – And it needs more Cowgil !”
1 And lastly “ It’s like 1983 again – but with no Hernandez or Seaver !”
Needless to say I have yet to hear back from the Mets yet .
If you feel you have a better slogan – please leave it in the comment section !
And with that said…. HERE COMES THE INFAMY !!!
Mets alumni celebrating a birthday today includes:
Utility infielder from ’64-’65, Bobby Klaus is 75 (1937) .
Reserve outfielder from’ 02-’03, Raul Gonzalez is 39 (1973) .
Starting pitcher from the ’02 season, Jeff D’Amico is 37 (1975).
The New York Mets traded pitcher, Kevin Appier to the Anaheim Angels for first baseman, Mo Vaughn on December 27, 2001. And thus the floodgate of Mo Vaughn joke burst open like Mo at an ” All You Can Eat” Chinese food buffet !
The New York Mets signed free agent reserve shortstop, Rey Sanchez of the Boston Red Sox on December 27, 2002. Unfortunately Sanchez was a better barber than shortstop – and that’s not saying much !
Mo Vaughn got a years supply of Toblerone for Christmas – he polished the last of the chocolaty confection 5 minutes after receiving it !

OT, but saw the yankees signed the stiff Matt Diaz. so one less suitor for Hairston.
really starting to think that the OD OF will be Duda/Kirk/Baxter/Hairston/Cowgill doing a lot of platooning.

That’s somewhat horrific.

We’ve deferred the payments.
You defer the enjoyment.

I think I remember this one from another blogger here from a past year:

According to ESPN’s free agent tracker, 72 players have been inked so far. Mets: zero.

Wait, I am immediately wrong. They counted 2012 major league players who signed minor league deals. So the Mets’ minor league signing of Byrdak counts.

Oh boy…..if we go into this season with the hodge-podge OFs we’ve currently got and one of Mejia, McHugh or whoever for the 5th starter and manage to finish above last place and at .500, I’ll be amazed.

This team’s got a lot of work and praying to do if they want to even sniff .500 in 2013.

For the outfield what’s left is Bourn and Hairston and the rest are no better than rolling with what’s already in house with Duda, Kirk and others. It’s horrendous. I don’t see them trading for Upton so it is what it is. Not quite at the point of should have kept Bay around just to see what would happen since we’re paying him anyway, but that question could be raised. The Angels seem to be preparing to dump Vernon Wells and eat almost all of the cash to do so. If so, why not make a call, at least he’s a warm body with an MLB track record.

hairston seems like the likely scenario.

THough things are so bad, I am still on board with trying to get Soriano on a salary dump. So vernon wells? Not gonna phase me!

IDK…I really don’t like the idea of picking up Wells, even if they pay most of his contract. Didn’t work out too well with Gary Jr. Only noteable footnote on that one was he hit his 500th while in a Mets uniform.
I’d just assume go with the kids at this point, if they’re not going to sign Hairston, Bourn or trade for someone like Upton.

“Citi Field, Mr. Dimples plays here!”
“Come watch us play and then tryout for the outfield.”
“Watch our outfielders play. There’s still hope for your kid.”
