This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty: The ” A Quick Question” Edition 12-30-12

Not much going on in Mets land so I figured that I would pose a quick question to you the readers. I received this cap from my sister in law as a Christmas gift this past week

I know her heart was in the right place and a gift is always appreciated, but isn’t this the ugliest Mets cap that you have ever seen ?

And with that said… HERE COMES THE INFAMY !!!!

Mets alumni celebrating a birthday today includes:

Reserve third baseman from the ’98 season, Ralph Milliard is 39 (1973). Milliard played only 10 games with the Mets. He had one lone plate appearance in which he struck out.He would be traded to the Reds the next season for middle reliever, Mark Corey.

Even Mo Vaughn wouldnt be caught dead wearing that hat !!!

well, not what i would pick. But pretty sure there have been worse ones!

Was thinking the same thing myself. I know I’ve seen worse for sale on MLB.
Me…I go for the traditional Mets stuff.

    OT: Saw this tweet:

    BowdenESPNxm:
Dan Jennings Marlins AGM told us they will listen to all offers on Giancarlo Stanton but they’re not shopping him and don’t want to move him.

Oh boy….I can dream. How good with Stanton look at Citi in RF?

    1. Stick

      as good as gone.

It is going to kill the Yankees if they don’t have enough MiL talent to ship down south for him! Though I hope like hell the same goes for the Phils.

    2. Stick

actually, the Mets should be able to be players, at least with young pitching. Since their only position prospect is Flores.

I would of course ship wheeler down today if that is what it took to get Stanton.

      1. srt

I would too, although I would offer him some 5 other guys first not including Wheeler and see if he bites.
And after giving up Dickey for D’Arnaud, be nice if we held onto him too.

From what I’m reading of the Phills, their upper farm system is a little bare right now so not sure if they could make a deal.

    3. TX

That would be awesome. But I would imagine it would take Wheeler, Flores, Fulmer and probably 2-3 others in the Valdy, Familia and a low end guy for him. And I’d probably do it.

Stanton’s an established 4-5 WAR guy and you’re trading for 4 years of control. Pitchers in that range are King Felix, Gio Gonzalez, Jordan Zimmerman. I think TX is right. It takes Wheeler, Flores +. Look what it took to secure Dickey.

      1. Stickguy

depending on the “+”, absolutely worth it. Wheeler and Flores as the core, with a few extra smaller/lower level parts thrown in, is a no brainer.

    5. Prismo

If the Mets were only offering prospects, my guess is it would take Wheeler and ~3 more top 15 prospects in our system (Syndergaard, Flores, Mejia, Familia, Nimmo, etc) and maybe the Mets would get 1-2 lower level prospects or major league scrubby guys back.

Wheeler and “no position” Flores plus scrubs does not net Stanton.

    That is one horrible hat.

But in all seriousness, this is clearly what the Mets are focusing on now, as the new uniforms show.

Ways to make more money very easily.

WHERE DID YOU GET THAT HAT?
    (Joseph J. Sullivan) (1888)
    (James Rolmaz) (1901)

“Now how I came to get this hat, ’tis very strange and funny
Grandfather died and left to me his property and money
And when the will it was read out, they told me straight and flat
If I would have his money, I must always wear his hat.

Where did you get that hat? Where did you get that tile?
Isn’t it a nobby one, and just the proper style?
I should like to have one Just the same as that!”
Where’er I go, they shout “Hello! Where did you get that hat?”
