Scott Hairston To Make Decision On Where He Will Play In A Matter Of Days

In an article written by Wallace Matthews of ESPNNewYork he quotes Casey Close, Hairston’s agent to say that in “a matter of days.” Hairston expects to make a decision about where he will play in 2013. It seems the decision could come down to either the Mets or the Yankees with Close saying “I think he’s a good fit for either team, …But there are different roles at each place and Scott is deciding which is the best option for him.”

Given what our OF is projected to look like, I wouldn’t mind at all if we spent some of this supposed surplus payroll money on signing Hairston.

On another note….just heard on MLB network that Scott Boras went to the Yankees and asked them to consider signing Soriano to a 1 year contract. Yankees said ‘No’. They’d rather have the draft pick.
    Times, they are a-changin’.

Yea I read that as well over at itsaboutthemoney.

    Hairston sucks.

I’d rather watch Kirk and even den Dekker and Duda struggle and see if they are in fact real MLB players.

Spend the money on Marcum or the bullpen.

Brutal I would hardly say that Hariston sucks. I am fine with him coming back as a right-handed bat. But hopefully he is cheap and short term.

As a “solution” for the outfield or as an everyday player or someone who might get $5 mil a year for two years, he definitely sucks.

He sucked majorly in 2010 and 2011, and despite a nice HR and 2B total in 2012, his BA was mediocre, his OBP was horrible, and he is a liability in the field.

Really, as I have said before, Hairston’s offense looked considerably better than it really was due to the rest of the team aside from Wright being so anemic.

Hairston’s a spare part for a high budget team, and there might be a reason he’s never been on a good team and never seen the postseason.

Save the money for something else–assuming they are even considering spending it in the first place.

BTW, not sure if you saw my comment, but was just in Atlanta for a music convention and met the Braves’ organist, who said that the Met beat writers are all pretty much really nice guys, and he especially said that Adam Rubin is a great guy, respectful, down-to-Earth, and ultra cool. Thought you might appreciate knowing that.

Same post could be written about Marco Scutaro at age 32. He has played pretty well since.

Well, congrats on perhaps the most irrelevant comment in Internet history.

No, I’ve seen more irrelevant. But yes, the odds of Hairston becoming an everyday player is about on par with the Mets chances of winning the WS.

Oh, there is a real good chance hairston becomes an everyday guy if he signs with the Mets.

Just no chance that he will be any good at it!

If they sign Hairston, I don’t believe it’s for an everyday OF spot.
I’d have to believe it’s to platoon with Duda in LF and whatever lefty bat winds up playing RF.

I pretty much agree with with Knog on this one. Yes, Hairston is probably a bit better than Brown but he is not part of any future, or anything close to a difference maker this year. So yeah, why bother?

Given a choice, I would rather take a flyer for about the same money on that Alvarez dude. He might suck too, but at least he has some upside potential baby! And would lend some sort of excitement to the team.

No argument from me on preferring Alvarez over Hairston.
I think the problem with that is probably the money though – and the fact that something like 10 other teams will be in on him, jacking the price up.

Maybe that’s who SA is saving all the off season money for. .-)

          2. Stick

that is my hope, that they are saving up for 1 “good” player, instead of peeing it away on a few mediocre guys.

quality over quantity at this point, especially one that can be controlled for many years (like Alvarez).

        3. greggofboken

Hairston’s a better match for the Yanks right now. While I’d be fine w/having him back, not at the price he’ll command, and not given our other needs. Spend the money on the rotation spot and the pen….or if a trade’s to be had where you can take on salary, keep it for that (though none presents itself to mind).

Hairston’s positioned himself for a an overpayment. Good for him. Nice guy. But the wrong circumstances for us right now.

  4. Mr North Jersey

I like Hairston I think he was good in his role of occasional starter and coming off the bench pinch hitter and I would not mind him returning but if his role is to be an everyday player even vs righties rather than some platoon then I have my doubts if he will be able to fulfill that role.

    1. Stick

that is my fear, they would bring him back as an every day guy.

I honestly think if they can get the right platoon RH guy, combined with baxter, they can easily have a cheap 2-headed RF that will easily outplay Hairston.

Our long national nightmare is almost over!

Hairston is fine as a forth outfielder getting 300 AB’s, but I don’t think we want him starting 140 games. He did a great job last year but most of that damage was against lefties.
