This Day In Mets Infamy With Rusty: The “You Really Like Me” Edition 01-08-13

Sorry I haven’t been around the last couple of days but I have been stricken with this monster strain of influenza that’s making the rounds.

I was healthy enough to be on hand for the Mazzy Awards that is hosted by our friends at the Mets Police blog – your home for everything – and anything Mets related.I was up for two awards – Best Writer and the Have You Read My Post Award ( I won the latter).

The guys at Mets Police had enough forsight to broadcast the ceremony so without further ado here it is in it’s entirety – just make sure to fast forward past my speech.

And with that said… HERE COMES THE INFAMY !!!!

Mets alumni celebrating a birthday today includes:

Mets outfielder from the ’62 season, John DeMerit is 77 (1936).

Mets third base coach from ’79-’81, Chuck Cottier is 77 (1936).

Mets center fielder from ’04-’05, Mike Cameron is 40 (1973).

Emergency starter from the ’06 season, Geremi Gonzalez would have been 38 today (1975).

Mets outfielder from ’09-10, Jeff Francoeur is 28 (1984).

Sadly on this date the Mets lost 2 members of their extended family.Mets third base coach from ’64-’65, Don Heffner in 1989 and pitching coach from ’66-’67, Harvey Haddix in 1994.

The New York Mets traded pitcher, Ray Searage to the Cleveland Indians for utility infielder, Tom Veryzer on January 8, 1982.

The New York Mets signed free agent reserve catcher, Tim Spehr of the Atlanta Braves on January 8, 1998.

The New York Mets released spot starter/middle reliever, Joe Crawford on January 8, 1998. In his lone season with the Mets Crawford went 4-3 with an E.R.A of 3.30.

The New York Mets signed free agent relief pitcher, Dae-Sung Koo on January 8, 2005.

Mo Vaughn has the constitution of a water buffalo !!!

Very nice Ed and I cannot think of an award more appropriately given to the correct person!

    :-)

Feel better my friend and keep up the good work!

And remember, money is NEVER an issue, Madoff will NOT affect the Mets, and Sandy is just slyly, patiently taking his time. I am sure the PERFECT players will be signed to lucrative deals when the time is right….

So you win an award for the author best personifying a used car salesman or telemarketing representative. I hope you feel better and, no, I don’t want to purchase a Popeil Veg-O-Matic. :p

There is an excellent, in-depth, piece titled “The importance of being Francesa……The man behind the mike” authored by Joe DePaolo at:

It is well worth the read.
