   also impressive that you can just start typing a name, and it brings the guy up before you even type the whole thing.

   how the heck did you put this together, and how long did it take?

   You don’t get stuff like this on other sites. Certainly not the “official” one!

      A lot of tedious digging through page after page of Mets history of transaction in B-R followed by more tedious work placing them in a proper table and then B-R has a tool that creates hyperlinks after scanning player names but even then it doesn’t do many so I have to go in after and create the rest manually.

      If I had to estimate I’d say It took close to12 hours to get the above.

   This is very cool. But something doesn’t appear to be sorting right for me.

   For instance, I sorted by team so I could get a look at the NY Mets and saw:

   3/18/2000 NYM Joe McEwing Jesse Orosco

   That’s incoming McEwing and outgoing Orosco.
   Jesse was long gone from the Mets by ’88.

      Check out the BR page. The Mets traded Chuck McElroy to the Orioles for Orosco, who was then flipped three months later for McEwing.

      Orosco a hero in 1986 delivered a dagger to the hearts of Mets fans when he induced Strawberry to popup with the base loaded in 1988 NLCS game 3.

         That 1988 NLCS series remains the biggest disappointment for me in Mets history. More so than the Wainwright curve to Beltran…..

      I looked for a relevant newspaper article that could confirm if this accounting is accurate and I found 2 articles from the NY Times.

      The 1st one talks about the Mets having traded for Orosco back in December 1999 which won’t show up above since I have only gone as far back as 2000.

      “Yes, Jesse Orosco is coming home. The Mets, with whom the 42-year-old relief pitcher began life as a major leaguer, got him back by trading Chuck McElroy to the Baltimore Orioles.”

      The 2nd one talks about how the Mets got McEwing in a March 2000 trade for Orosco.

      “Joe McEwing, the Mets’ handyman infielder-outfielder, toiled in the Cardinals’ farm system for seven season before earning the nickname Super Joe as a rookie last year. He joined the Mets during spring training in a March trade for the left-hander Jesse Orosco, but he learned his baseball in the Cardinal system.”

      Orosco was traded for and away in a span of 4 months.

   R.I.P Earl Weaver
   Still remember going into the ’69 season against the Big Bad Birds and bulldog Weaver. The Mets as underdogs, was putting it mildly.

   Buster_ESPNBuster_ESPN: Earl Weaver was among the first managers who went next level with his statistical analysis — a man ahead of his time, for sure.

      Too young to remember 1969, but in the late 1970s and early 1980s when the Mets were horrific, I adopted the O’s as my 2nd favorite team, a spot now held by the Mariners.

      Those were some fantastic teams, and just like the later 1980s Mets, would have made more playoff appearances with the expanded playoffs of today.

      Weaver could be hilarious.

      This morning on ESPN, Tim Kurkjian told a story about how after Weaver’s dad was at a game and afterwards told Weaver that he was embarrassing to watch when he berated the umps, and Weaver never again did it. And Kurkjian said he was the only one who knew that story and just told it today.

         Davey Johnson’s managerial philosophy was similar to Weavers since they came up through the ranks together, Weaver as manager in the Oriole system and Johnson as player (he played under Weaver in Baltimore from 1968 to 1972).          I particularly enjoyed the Orioles playing Bonnie Tyler’s rendition of “It’s A Heartache” through the PA system whenever Weaver argued with the umpires. Weaver would always turn his cap backwards so he could get up close to the umpire when he argued.

      Stan “The Man” Musial was a thorn in the side of the Dodgers. There was a love, hate relationship between the Brooklyn fans and Musial. Musial’s life time OPS against the Dodgers is 1.032.
