   Other than Frank, we have seen some shakey GM-ing on this team.

   Alderson is still in the “review” period, so he gets an incomplete at this point.

   someone on another site posted this link to clips on Andrew Brown. They might actually have something here. Nice swing, some real pop, and looks good defensively.

   If he can even just come in and be a solid bench guy, never mind a productive RH half of a platoon in RF, that would be a huge lift! dream big and he can be another late bloomer when he finally gets his chance, like Werth with the Phils.

   I sitll wish they had a “real” CF, because it would make it a lot easier to live with a duda/cowgill/kirk (or Baxter)/Brown 4 man double platoon for LF and RF.

         not unless you go with a 6 man pen, or use the IF back up guy in it too. And if that ends up being Turner again (why?) not interested.

         besides, Terry is way too addled at this point to keep track of that many guys!

            I’m glad I haven’t heard much this off season about that Turner in the OF idea. Here’s hoping they’ve abandoned that.

         the more I think about it, the more sure I am that they have to make at least 1 more move for the OF. They just can’t try to cobble it together with the current personell, unless they want to make Duda an every day guy.

         I guess if they will try that, then Kirk/cowgill in CF and Baxter/Brown in RF?

         not really feeling that. Get a “real” player for CF or RF, then use cowgill or brown to split time with Duda maybe?

            Yeah. A lot would be solved if Duda was an everyday guy. The baseball-sensical move would be Bourn. Factoring in all things, prob. not happening, but in a strict this makes the team better move, it gives you that gold glove, CF, Leadoff, doesn’t need to platoon guy that this team needs. Then you roll with Charlie Sheen and Willem Defoe for the platoon roles.

            Trying to wrap my head around who in the world they could target other than Bourn to get an everyday type OF player.
            - Crisp may be one of the viable options.
            - I don’t see AZ moving Parra. I could see Kubel, but for the price, he’s basically Duda plus a little something, so I’d pass on that.
            - Wells? I guess it could work, but you’re talking about making LAA eat abut 40 mil of that 42 mil, and they ain’t doing that unless you start playing with multiple players. Santana and something for Wells and a better prospect?
            - Sign Delmon Young? I think it would be worth it, but with so much youth on the team, do you really want that influence?
            - Milwaukee for either Hart or Gomez? Both are FAs after this season (and Gomez is a Boras client). Unless you can extend them, not sure that is worth it.
            - Tabata from Pitt. I think he’d be too costly for the actual production, but it could be a fit.
            - Willingham from Minny, but he’d be way too expensive in terms of prospects (in my mind anyway).

            Am I missing anyone?

            Speaking of Duda…..

            The consensus pretty much is he’s going to be well below average defensively. Hope is his bat makes up for some of that. But what happens if he picks up where he left off? That at the plate he’s so ineffective they want to send him back to the minors?

            If they don’t sign at least one legitimate starting OF, we might be in a world of hurt with this OF.

          and of course, browsing the blogsphere, the “usual suspects” are pissing and moaning about how Sandy didn’t get delmon. wah wah wah.

          completely ignoring all his flaws, and fixating on the price too, while missing the elephant in the room (29 other teams would not pay more that 750K for a nominally productive OF (really DH) bat). Since FA is an auction, and you know his agent shopped him hard, this pretty much is all you need to know about him.

          Of course, in that tiny LF, he will put up 40 HRs and 120 RBIs with only a postage stamp of ground to cover, but odds are that was not happening here!

          I am now on a “De-fence” kick. gloves, baby gloves.

          Is he even average offensively? The last two years he has been horrible.

          Really, I was a little surprised at how terrible his overall stats are across the board. This guy really, really sucks.

          Frankly Prismo, I think we should take it as a compliment that he is anti-Semitic.

             I read the article in today’s paper (philly, remember?) about him. On top of everything else, he had microfracture surgery on his ankle 11/10, and quite likely will not be ready for ST, if not OD.

             though at least the Phils are saying the brought him in to be the everyday RF.

             Good for them!
