That is a resoundingly clear vote of “no confidence” in Frankie Frank. He sounds quite alarmed and I’m inferring it’s more over his health issues than anything else. (“I hope Frankie does something over the next few weeks to dispel that discomfort”>) With Frankie, Atchison, Pedro, and Hawkins all in the mix the odds of flameouts are pretty high. We may need all the depth that the Plan B kids offer.

I also got the sense that a good first half doesn’t buy Terry any kind of extension. He’s going to need to avoid a second-half fold in order to stay.

can’t listen to this now, but in regard to Franky, health is the big wildcard. he was actually pretty effective last yard before he hurt himself mid-year (ab maybe?) Still want to see someone better, but if he is there, not goint to freak me out.

And I hope they do have too many options, so they store them up in Vegas, and doesn’t bother me at all if they cycle through a few to play the hot hand. Better than staying with a guy stinking up the joint!

Terry? I don’t really care for him as a manager (on the field part of it) and have no problem if he moves off into some different role in the organization. Bring in some young star in the making, and let him crow up with the team starting next year.

    gotta love sandy’s honesty.

I do enjoy listening to him. I also appreciate his jokes and snarkiness at times. Then again, I am a sarcastic smartass, so maybe I am not the best one to judge?

Ah…then you’re in good company Stick.

Most people that I have known that classify themselves as “smartass” only have it part right. ;-)

you don’t wanna play the IQ card old man. Trust me…

          1. gategem

You don’t earn the grades I did in the schools I attended and receive a PhD in an extremely difficult subject, namely Mathematics and Engineering, with a low IQ. I’m still designing complex digital products that are being utilized in military systems so Alzheimer’s and Dementia have as yet set in. So stop being so full of yourself. And my comment still holds.

Gate, you work for a contractor or directly for DoD?

          3. gategem

I did consulting work for a contractor up until recently. I’m hoping to finally enter true retirement but I’m not sure I can afford it.

BTW am I as intelligent at 70 as I was when I was your age? Hell no! Age, health issues and medication robs one of much of their mental acuity. The short term memory takes a major hit. Perhaps when I was younger if I had not woken in so my beds not knowing where I was and who the young lady was I was with I would be in better shape now. But if I had to do it all over again I would do it exactly the same. Too many of the geeks that filled my professional life existed in a very boring world.

BTW I’m following the ongoing arguments here (although not participating) discussing plans the FO is enacting and while it is interesting I find it to be superfluous. If we just accept that the Mets have a number of interrelated plans in effect while reacting to transient environmental changes in doing business with the overriding consideration being to save the Wilpons proverbial arse everything they are doing makes sense.

I’m waiting for that book of yours to come out, gategem. Just love your stories.

I was away from my computer and I heard this loud SLAP sound coming from it but at 1st didn’t think nothing of it. Turns out I come to find that that sound was Gategem Bitch-Slapping Stick from across the internet. :-P

I’m reading this morning that Mets are looking at signing Valverde if they can get him at their price. Interesting…..I wouldn’t mind that signing, if it was reasonable.

    1. Stick

he is scary. talk about a guy that looks to be shot, it would absolutely not surprise me to see him make FFF look like a savior.

given a choice, I would rather take a flyer on Wilson, even if he may need some time to work back into shape. Just not seeing Valverde ever doing it.

and it just smells of getting a “big name” just because, you know, you have to have one.

If big V is the only choice, screw it, just let the cast of thousands fight it out for the job.

Did you read that the reason they were talking to Oswalt was to be their CLOSER? lol. omfg they are clueless. Like Oswalt would a) come to NY, and b) do it to become a closer.

I haven’t been reading every single thread of late so of this was already covered by the community I’ll go back into hibernation.

      1. srt

You’re right, they were entertaining the idea of Oswalt as the closer. Fortunately, Oswalt still sees himself as a starter and wanted no part of the BP.

        1. gategem

It’s possible they thought Oswalt could make the transition successfully as did John Smoltz and Dennis Eckersley. At this point in Oswalt’s career they possibly thought he could be successful on a short term basis.
