might as well clog up a clean thread with a long, rambling post. And I guess “dog” and Mets OF” can go together.

I am starting to think this Bourn signing could happen. So if it does, what does that mean. Consolidating my ideas, and a few suggestions from the last thread, here is a WAG.

First, right now (no Bourn) assume the OF is duda, (Cowpie, Kirk), (baxter and Brown). WIth the () being the CF and RF platoons.

if Bourn arrives, logically it means 1 of baxter or Kirk gets the boot, and cowboyssuck goes to the bench (and is a defensive replacement for lerch).

But, as someone suggested, what if they decide to move Duda out, and go with D and speed instead? this would mean Bourn in CF, same RF guys, and Kirk/Cowpoke in LF. Certainly would make the pitchers happy, and would easily be one of the fastest, better fielding LF in the game.

But, will it have enough power to cover for eliminating 1 of the few real big bats in the lineup? No, not likely, but overall production has a reasonable chance to make the move worth it.

I do think Duda gets at least part of the season to prove himself. If he struggles and is a mess in the field, he could go to AAA. if he hits and looks bad in the field, trade to a team that needs a 1B/DH that can hit. if he looks OK in the field and hits, no problem! Plus, hard to imagine they could get much trade return right now.

But, the 2nd part of the plan to replace the big guy? Mid season, when D’omelot comes up, he brings Flores with him to play 2B, and they trade Murphy too. If nothing else, eliminates the LH heavy lineup.

does this lineup look like something you could build around (keeping in mind the rotation posibilities)?

    Bourn – L
    tejada – R
    Wright – R
    Ike – L
    D’whatshisname – R
    Kirk/Cowpie – “S”
    Flores – R
    baxter/Brown – “S”

Lineup is balanced, and pretty deep, depending of course on how the rookies do. And yes, this could be more of a stepping stone to 2014. Oh, and other than potentially Flores, strong D all around, and speed if not a lot of SB threats.

Even better, you are now pretty well set at every spot but corner OF. And with 4 guys in the rotation, you could certainly look at it as needing 1 “real” OF (Cargo, for whoever it is fixated on him!) with the other guys fighting for a FT or platoon/bench job. No big deal having 1 of them.

and the only thing I might be reaching at is if Wilmer can handle 2B OK, otherwise just hoping to get some production at all out of the platoons, but mostly for them to catch the ball!

      Making my head spin.

According to Martino yesterday, there is no competition for any spots other than the BP.
Really? What does he know about who gets these OF spots that the rest of us don’t.

nothing really. It does annoy me though if they really don’t have any up for grabs, but I doubt that is the case. Have to be a few rosters spots in play, and certainly starting/platoon/bench.

So if pet owners start resembling their pets maybe this explains why Sandy is sitting on his ass regarding addressing the OF situation.
