Here is an estimated breakdown at how things look with the projected 25 man Roster/Payroll for 2013 Minus the reported deferred salary amounts of $5M to Johan Santana, $3M to David Wright and $15M to Jason Bay.
Note: Keep in mind that Johan Santana’s buyout was reported that it will be part of 2013 payroll.

What I found really interesting about the courtship of Bourn that didn’t bear out was that there was a willingness to absorb his 2013 salary (if you believe their interest was genuine, which I do).
When you factor in the deferrals, which I will since I believe they are — the payroll stood at $98M with the addition of Lyon. Bourn’s $12M would have taken them beyond the $100M soft cap they said they were working with.
It didn’t happen, so the willingness to spend is a hypothetical….but since you raise it, in light of Fred’s remarks, it’s a point of interest.

Counting the deferrals as you suggest they would of been at $110M had they signed Bourn at what he signed with Cleveland.

bourn’s deal is actually backloaded. He is only getting about 7mill in 2013, then something like 14 for the next 3.

Thanks for updating these posts on the Mets budget, MrNJ.
I’ve seen one or two sites post similar budget estimates but they’re always so complicated I barely glance at them. Yes, I can be lazy with numbers….math is definitely not my strong suit.
Here, I can look at the bottom line – what we spent, what the projected is, what is left – and see basically where the team is at. Good stuff!
