You want to hear a nightmare? Ike Davis gets hurt filling in the World Baseball Classic for another injured player that was hurt getting ready for the World Baseball Classic.
Now we all know how Ike needs to have a big season….I think he knows it too.
Davis and the Mets need the World Baseball Classic like a little kid needs chicken pox.
In my opinion, the Met front office needs to step in here and stop Davis from participating. And if the powers that be at the WBC have a problem with it, they should be reminded that they already have a star at third who wears a Met uniform as well.
Perhaps there should be a rule created here. That each team is only allowed to send one player from their roaster. A team like the Mets can ill afford to lose any player at this time….especially their corner infielders who they so much depend on.
Thoughts?

I disagree. I don’t think he is any more likely to get injured in the WBC than in regular ST. It’d be a fun experience for him and he already said he’d love to go.
But the point seems moot anyway, beat reporters are saying Eric Hosmer will be taking the spot

I agree with Lisa Simpson.

yeah, don’t really see how WBC BP is any riskier than ST BP. games? Other than playing some more innings (not really a bad thing) and getting some more in-game ABs (ditto) I don’t really see much difference.
Though that is only for position players. Pitchers, that is a different situation entirely.

I don’t see it as any more risk than ST for healthy position players but the point is moot anyway. Seems like they picked Eric Hosmer.
Eric Hosmer??

Yeah that was an odd choice. Some people were saying they wanted someone who was already in AZ. Which I guess would explain that decision, but it doesn’t seem like it’d be that hard to fly a guy out from FL.

I saw in a tweet somewhere that they wanted a lefty batter who doesn’t K a lot. I’ll confess to not knowing much about this Eric Hosmer so have no idea how he is with the bat.

I would guess Hosmer is considered a better player than Davis. Hosmer was an elite prospect coming up and ironically has a bad season similar to Ike’s last year, but is still considered a better hitter.

I’m anti-WBC, so I say NO NO NO. If it was done right after the world series or something along those lines, maybe. But not at a time when players should be gelling with their teams, prepping for the season.

As long as he’s doing some sort of live baseball activities, he risks injury. This would be a non-story to me even if they hadn’t reportedly decided to send Hosmer instead.
Everything about the WBC gets a giant “meh” from me.

Well, while I think the Mets have a nice roaster, if Ike wants to play, sure.
As long as St. Dimples the Cutest stays the f*** away from him on infield popups.
