In Honor Of The NCAA Tournament: Contestants

As we continue in our series to develop a NCAA style bracket challenge on a favorite Mets topic, the voters have spoken and have chosen:

Favorite regular season moment of all-time

as their favorite topic.

Today, we will take suggestions for the top 8 moments to slide into our bracket.  If we have more than 8 we will again vote for the top 8.

Have fun!

    Game 7, 86
    Game 6, 86
    Johan’s no hitter
    Piazza’s home run after 9/11

Those are the first 4 that come to my mind. But I started following te mets in 79, so I’m sure I’m not qualified to toss in some of the first WS or 73.

“Favorite regular season moment of all-time”

Regular season. :) So 2/4 ain’t bad, haha.

      1. TRS86

LOL, I hope we at least get 6 more so we don’t have to use those 2 from the postseason. I have a feeling they might still win.

      2. TX

Uh… That’s what i meant. The 7th and 6th games that season. Yeah, that right… paging doctor coffee…

        1. darknova306

Doctor Coffee is in the supply closet having a “meeting” with his nurse, Miss Alcohol. :)

          1. TX

I just knew that Dr. Coffee was Irish!

  2. SaltyGary

May 6, 2006 Victor Zambrano tore a elbow ligament and was never seen on the Mets again.

    Piazza’s 911 HR.

2000 Comeback against Braves that was topped off by Piazza HR

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsJ_gwEMtrs

1997 Subway series Dave Miliki shoutout.

    1. TRS86

LOL, poor Victor, setup from the start.

      1. SaltyGary

I know I’ve mentioned this before but I was at the game. The crowd roared when he clutched his arm and ran off the field. Players simply cannot survive in NY when the heat is on.

  3. greggofboken

    The no-hitter
    Piazza’s homer
9/24/69 – Mets clinch titlle vs Cards
7/9/69 – Seaver’s flirt with perfection vs. Cubs
    6/7/08 – Delgado’s team record 9 RBI vs Yanks
    Opening Day, 1985 – Carter’s homer

    1. TRS86

      Nice.

    2. SaltyGary

Ooh the Carter one is good. They replayed that game on SNY when he died, that was a great start to his Mets career.

I’m too young to know the other stuff.

      1. kingman 26

Thanks for making that post for me at Metsblog—that all is just TOO funny for words.

        Thanks again.

    3. gategem

      Excellent suggestions greggofboken.

To those I would like to add
9/ 10/ 1969 – The Mets reach first place for the first time in franchise history.

  4. srt

#1 I have to go with Piazza’s HR first game back after 911.

    Others:
    - May 19th 2006 – Wright walkoff against Mariano. Mets over Yanks 7-6.

    - 1985 Opening Day – Carter’s HR

    - June 1st 2012 – Johan’s no hitter

    1. srt

How could I forget and I hope this counts

      - Game 163 – October 4th 1999 – one game playoff win (5-0) against the Reds to clinch the NL wild card.

      1. Prismo

I believe that is counted as a regular season game, right?

        1. kingman 26

Yes it is and I was in Vegas and won $200 on that game!

      2. TRS86

I think the one game playoffs do technically count as regular season games.

      3. darknova306

Great call, SRT! That’s one of my favorite memories of this team.

  5. TRS86

I don’t want to muddy the waters here but what do you guys think about the Mets looking into Brennan Boesch? I know he’s LH but he at least has experience and with Kirk injured and Baxter struggling the once all LH OF is now starting to look like two RH in Cowgill and Byrd having to lose spots to not be the starters.

    1. TX

Boesch is not good. The only real benefit for him is that he doesn’t have drastic splits. He’s equally not good vs. either RHP or LHP. I’d say pass.

    2. srt

      Saw that mentioned on MLBTR.

I know nothing about him. Is his defense any good? Does he play CF?

Then there’s the 40man roster crunch to consider.

      1. TRS86

He has played RF and LF and had a pretty decent season in 2011 but fell off badly last year.

      2. TX

has a negative dWAR for all his seasons. Corner OF. Bats LH. if picked up, Mets would need to pay 2.3 million. No thank you.

        1. TRS86

Not if he goes through waivers. They would only owe him the minimum. Also because he is an arbitration player he falls into the Duaner Sanchez rule of if he is cut by a certain date the team only owes him 1/6th of his salary and then he’s just a FA with no more money owed.

          1. TX

Under that scenario, that would be OK. I don’t see him getting through waivers. Seems like a Yankee pickup to me.

          2. gategem

Tx there was an article in the local papers that Cashman used Twitter to reach out to Chipper Jones and Derrek Lee. They both turned Cashman down. David Lennon writing in Newsday suggested Joe Pepitone and Tino Martinez while Derrek Jeter suggested Mike Schmidt.

  6. TRS86

While he may not be “good”
    .259 .315 .414 .729
is not really any worse than any of the other candidates and at least he has done something at the MLB level. He’s still only 27.

    1. wanny

boesch’s 2011 would be welcome here:

      283 .341 .458

      1. TX

        So would Duda’s.

        .292 / .370 / .482

I think they actually may be the same player. Have we ever seen them in the same place at the same time? hmmmm….

  7. darknova306

August 30, 1992 – Reds at Mets. Bobby Bonilla hits 3-run walk-off homer off Rob Dibble. Dibble tears off his throwback jersey before walking off the mound as the Shea Faithful rip into him.

I’ll never forget that. Even as a 10 year old kid, I knew Dibble was a straight up classless chump. :)

    1. TRS86

      LOL, I vaguely remember that.

      1. greggofboken

I remember seeing Dibble rip that jersey off. Always a pleasure. I remember Boomer Wells doing the same thing after a postseason shellacking in the Bronx. Good times!

    2. srt

Can’t say as I remember this game but HAHAHAHA.

Rob Dibble is classless indeed. I remember that whole controversy he caused while at FOX in 2011, saying on air that Strasburg needs to suck it up and play through the pain. LOL….same pain that required TJ surgery.

Reading on Wiki, looks like that’s not the only bonehead comment he made on air.

      1. srt

Sorry…that was while a Nats broadcaster in 2011.

      2. darknova306

It was one of the few games that left an impression on me from that dreadful era of Mets baseball. I’ve disliked Dibble ever since :)

  8. kingman 26

    (In no particular order)

–1999 One game playoff to make the postseason–watched it in Las Vegas, won dough, and was SO excited for them to make the playoffs for the first time since 1988

–Opening day 1985 with Carter’s walkoff in first game as a Met (off of Neil Allen no less)

–Doc Gooden’s debut in Houston in 1984

–Darryl Strawberry’s debut in NY against Mario Soto in May 1983–I was at the game and Kingman hit a homer in the bottom of the 9th to tie it with two outs and then Foster hit a 3-run HR to win it in the 13th and Darryl’s first MLB run scored was the winning run

    –The 1986 division-clincher

–The 2000 comeback against the Braves when Piazza hit a HR to take the lead

–And I DO have to include the 1-hitter last year by El Rey Del DL

  9. Mike Bee

September 9, 1969: The Mets beat the Cubs 7-1 in the “black cat” game.

    1. srt

Good one. I remember this game.

      1. gategem

So do I. Does it mean we’re old? ;-)

        1. srt

Don’t know about you gategem but I’m forever 29.

      Mike Bee!

      Chest R here–WELCOME!!

We have a much smaller comment group here, but I think you will find most of the folks here very knowledgeable, funny, polite, and eminently reasonable.

I am an author here and really hope you visit a lot.

      1. Mike Bee

Thanks! I love it already…I’m discussing the Mets and not spelling/grammar/errors!

        1. kingman 26

          Hahaha!

It is a different world here–this thread is what it is always like—there are NO racists like JimmyBX or semi-literates like HankHappy or miserable complaining nitwits like Jean Valjean or Metropolitan or all-around idiots like GalaxyDude with his “sources.” Just intelligent, well-adjusted Met fans.

A little background–TRS, myself, and many of the commenters on this thread as well as other authors were a group of people who really enjoyed interacting with each other at Metsblog, and we would sort of take over threads discussing baseball, music, movies, etc., and Cerrone banned ALL of us in December of 2008–but he has complimented us and linked many times to our stories.

So TRS and two others formed this site in the spring of 2009 and we have been having a great time ever since.

Give us a chance–once the season starts, we have a LOT more articles and posts, and I would truly love to hear your opinion of mine. But the daily discussion here is just fantastic.

Thanks again for coming over and please say hi to the good folks at Metsblog for me and tell them they are welcome here too, especially Pedro, Patrick, BK, R05, Charlie, Benny, Verdadero, the good Jimmy, Godsend, and the rest of the cool kids.

And I have to say, I think Amakiir would appreciate it here as well. We only have one regular lady here (SRT) and we could use another!

          1. Mike Bee

Thanks, I definitely will. It sounded like BK was going to head over, and I think we can easily recruit a few more.

          2. srt

More female fans would be most welcome. Not that I don’t love all you guys – great group to debate all things baseball.

          3. Stick

hopefully dan the man comes back when the season starts.

wonder how she enjoyed going to ST?

          4. darknova306

December 2008. Wow, it’s been a long time. Metsblog was how I wasted the first half of just about every day when I was wasting away in my office job. Then Cerrone magically had “forum issues” for a while, and I finally realized I was among a long list of folks that were now suddenly banned.

Man, a lot has changed over the years. Many kudos to the folks (TRS, DirtySanchez, etc) that started this place up in its first incarnation. Things have progressed wonderfully since then. I think I’ve read about 3 Mattsblog articles since then, all with countless editorial and gross factual errors galore.

    8. Opening Day ’85

    7. 2006 Division clinch.

    6. Seaver almost perfect against the Cubs.

    5. Lieter SH vs the Reds in the 1 game playoff. (still regular season?)

    4. Delgado 9 RBI against Yanks

    3. Piazza caps 10 run inning for comeback against braves

    2. Piazza homer after 9-11.

    1. No-han Santana.

    1. TRS86

      Thanks Jose_Who?
Have you been around? If not then welcome, if so then welcome back.

      1. Jose_Who

I’m a regular on Metsblog. First comment here, though I have visited several times before.

        1. TRS86

          Wooot, woooot, welcome!

          1. kingman 26

Jose and Mike Bee are among the best folks at Metsblog.

    2. Mike Bee

Your #7 got me thinking…how sweet was it to sweep four games from the Cardinals in 2007, especially the opener after they had raised their WS flag?

      1. Jose_Who

What kills me about that year(’06), is that when Endy made that catch, it felt like destiny. It did. Then they lost. All I remember thinking is that we were a LOCK for the WS in ’07. Remember that feeling? smdh.

        1. Mike Bee

I hear you. I thought we were a lock too, especially since we had basically done almost the same thing in ’85/’86. The 1985 Mets won 98 games, but the Cardinals edged us by three. I remember being heartbroken, but I knew the Mets would be great next year. Unfortunately, 2007 wasn’t 1986.

        2. TX

That is the pinnacle of an elation to defeat game ever. I remember chips and beer and whatever else was on the table being spilled as my wife and I both jumped up, high fiving and hooting and a hollering (say that in a Texas twang) when that catch happened. Then to sit there and watch that pitch from Heilman and then the pitch from Wainwright. I don’t even blame Beltran for that. It was probably the most wicked curve i had seen since Doc Ks.

          1. Stick

I actually blame the AB on Beltran. Wainright looked shellshocked, and Beltran just sat there with the bat on his shoulder, watching 2 “I have no control just just gotta groove one down the middle” FBS go by, to create the 0-2 hole, giving wainright the opportunity to even throw the CB.

still wonder what would have happened if he had gone up looking to attack, figuring the guy was desperate to not fall behind again.

Maybe I should just blame Jerry for that too. or hojo, though hard to ever blame him for a guy not swinging!

          2. srt

Talk about a heart breaker of a game. I have never been able to watch any replay of that game past the Endy catch.

I blame that whole failure on our pitching. I think we were lucky to even get to game 7 when we had to use both the very young and inexperienced Maine and Ollie in post season. Not that they didn’t make decent showings but…

We used like 12 SPs that year just to clinch the division.

And do not get me started on the HR off Heilman in game 7. Damn Duaner and his taxi cab ride…..

          3. darknova306

SRT, that’s something that a lot of folks overlook. That team was amazing to get that far with the haphazard pitching staff they threw together over the course of the year.

          4. Stick

for some other post, I looked at a list of IP by the pen for the Mets in the last decade or so, and the year that stuck out, by far, on the high side was 2006. How any team could win that many games with such a rag tag SP staff is a mystery.

too bad Omar tried to go with the “rely on the pen” the next couple of years also, just without the talent to pull it off.

          5. darknova306

It’s not that much of a mystery. TRS had a great post about 2006 last year. Most of the offense had career years, significant rebound years, or breakout years. Couple that with a ton of innings out of a really solid bullpen and a rotation that kept you in the game despite a smaller number of innings, and you have a really good team.

The success that year was a detriment, cause it drove the front office to constantly believe they were just “one big FA away”, when they were really much more flawed (as some of us Nattering Nabobs of Negativity were yelling for a while) than most wanted to believe.

        3. darknova306

Before that postseason started, I was down the hall from my office talking to some of the other physics grad students, one of whom was a huge Mets fan from North Carolina. He had a friend that got some tickets for one of the NLDS games at Shea and asked if I wanted to go down for it. Being a poor grad student, I said “nah, I can’t afford it right now. I can always go next year.” He responded “don’t be too sure, it’s the Mets.”

Should’ve listened. Count me as one of those who thought they were a lock in 07, and wound up brutally crushed.

          1. TRS86

LOL, I didn’t know there were many huge Mets fans from NC like Me.

          2. darknova306

Y’all are a special breed down there :p

          3. Stick

I’m still trying to get down there at some point. That should put you over the top real!

          4. Trs86

It would certainly be nice to watch a Mets game and have a beer with a fellow fan.

        4. greggofboken

I was in the park that night. Endy’s catch happened right below where I was sitting. He was lost from our view as he went to the wall. The place was as noisy as I have ever heard it. Then followed the Yadi home run. I have never heard so many people grow so quiet, so suddenly. It happened as soon as the bat met the ball….it seemed to float out. A packed house full of people sitting in stunned silence as though each had been given a shot of novacain.

Then Wainwright/Beltran. I was sitting with a friend, who immediatley after the ump’s call on strike three yelled “Hey Gregg!” I turned and he took my picture in that horrifying moment. I have never seen the picture. I will never see the picture.

But I will see that pitch from Wainwright until the day I die.

        5. Prismo

If we’re talking about great performances, John Maine’s 7.2 innings of 1-hit ball the second to last game of the 2007 season was pretty spectacular. He also had 14 strikeouts in the 13-0 win.

          (Thanks again, Glavine!)

          1. Stick

I have impeccible timing in life.

I was at Shea in late 2007 and 2008. But game 162 both years, not 161.

I will despise that Braves plant Glavine for the rest of my life. He should have given the jet skis back.

          2. srt

I know this is just a stretch conspiracy theory but I think Glavine wanted no part of post season in ’07.

Take a good look at him and his interview in the clubhouse the night we clinched the division in ’06. He was standing at the door, back from all his teammates and had the only dry jersey in the house. They were interviewing him, asking him how this compares to all those division clinchers he had with the Braves. He was hard pressed to sound excited at all about going to post season. Best he could do was saying something like ‘this is great for those who have never been before such as the young guys and even Carlos (Delgado).’ Never once said himself that he was excited.

I think he’d have rather been packing his backs to go back to Atlanta. And maybe, just maybe….he made sure that after game 162 in ’07 he would be heading back home to Atlanta.

Yeah, I said it was a stretch. I’ll never forgive Glavine. Never warmed up to him as a Met anyway. Kind of hard after hating that trio for years. :-)

          3. Mike Bee

I never trusted Glavine completely after that 15-2 loss in his opener in 2003. I had even taken the day off from work to watch. I remember an article the next day named him “Tom Horrific” for that one.

          4. srt

Oh, I forgot about that 15-2 loss. Tom Horrific indeed.

IMO, the only good thing about Glavine being a NY Met was when he decided to go back to Atlanta to end his career. That draft pick netted us Ike Davis.

    3. kingman 26

      Hey Jose!

Welcome from Chest R AKA Kingman!

Hope you hang around here this season…we would love to have you and I think you’ll like it.

  11. Mike Bee

One more, but probably not a top eight: fireworks at 4:01am on July 5th, 1985 in Atlanta, after the Mets beat the Braves 16-13 in 19 innings.

    1. gategem

Was that the Rick Camp game?

      1. Mike Bee

Yes, tied it in the 18th.

    2. kingman 26

Totally forgot that one, saw almost the whole game—great call.

  12. Stick

don’t ask me for dates. I barely know what year it is.

lets see, most of the good ones (9/11 homer, no-hitter) mentioned. What else is there?

Agee putting a HR in the upper deck? A game that apparently does not exist on film, and none of us were at! Yeah, that will win.

the classic scoreboard shot in 1969 when the Mets went into 1st place for the first time ever.

Franco’s walk-off vs. Mariano (just because I was at that game).

1970 home opener to raise the championship banner?

2007 game 161 (Maine comes up big)
    2008 game 161 (johan on 1 leg)

    The Bobby V disguise game.

    1. Mike Bee

Your scoreboard reference reminded me of another highlight, the Mets beating the Cards 6-0 on September 24, 1969 to clinch the NL East. Most will remember it as the game where the fans tore up the field.

      1. SaltyGary

YES on the Bobby V disguise game!

        1. TRS86

I actually thought about placing that as my pic for today but ultimately went with Jose and Wright.

        2. kingman 26

Hey Gary–Thanks again man—Mike Bee and Jose Who are two of the best people at Metsblog and hopefully a few more might visit.

    2. srt

The Bobby V disguise game – good one.

    3. gategem

“don’t ask me for dates. I barely know what year it is.”
      On or off the bong?

“the classic scoreboard shot in 1969 when the Mets went into 1st place for the first time ever”
I vaguely remember Lindsey Nelson saying something like (and I paraphrase) look who’s in first place (9/ 10/ 1969).

  13. Boomer

Best classic scoreboard shot? When the Mets wished me a happy birthday on the big board as part of a Carvel ice cream promotion when I was like 7.

What? How many of you ever had your name in lights on the big board at Shea?

    1. Mike Bee

Just you and the 1986 World Champion Red Sox. :)

  14. TRS86

I think I am still going to go with No-han only because I was able to share that moment with my 6 year old daughter who still talks about it now. Unfortunately there haven’t been many other great moments period for the Mets during her lifetime.

    1. kingman 26

What does SHE think of Beltran’s double in that game?

      :-)

      1. Prismo

She thinks the end is more important than the means. :)

        1. Stick

probably a smart kid that knows a ball is whatever the umpire calls it.

  15. TX

    Stick, TRS…

Please sit down. Carlos Gomez was extended by the Brewers…

    1. TX

And the FA options for 2014 are already getting thinner and thinner…

A bird in the hand is worth a Bourn in CF.

      1. Stick

mark my words, bourn is going to be a major dud for Cleveland. Dodged a bullet there. But I did want Gomez.

At this point, just say screw it, and if cowpie doesn’t somehow take over, just roll with MDD for the glove, and hope on the bat.

if he even holds his own with the bat, he will pretty much be Bourn. Who really does not do much offensively. The only number that is normally not mungy is steals, and even there, the last few years his CS% has been 25%, pretty much negating the benefit.

and as it relates to the MDD debate, Bourns 1st real year (as a starter) was coincidentally when he was 25. and he put up the stellar offensive #s of .229/.288/.300/.588. with 5 HRs and 29 RBIs in 514 PAs.

to put that in perspective, as historically bad Bay was last year, he had a .536 OPS. So Bourn was far from a ML level player outside of his glove. His 2nd year though was quite a bit better, getting up to at least Luis Castillo level! Back when he was not a shell.

Bourns career OPS/OPS+ is still only .704/90, so he really has been living all these years (and now getting paid quite well) off his glove.

I know you almost had me talked into MB, but general rule, if you have to be talked into something, it is not a real good idea.

        1. TX

I hope I’m so wrong about MDD that I’m laughed off the blog. But I doubt it.

          1. Stick

don’t worry. If you miss on that one, we’ll find something else to laugh at you about!

          2. darknova306

MDD has shown power in the minors. Had a solid half year in high-A, moved to AA and sucked. Had a solid AA season, moved to AAA and sucked. He tends to need a half-year adjustment period, but he has potential to not be horrible at the plate in the majors. And defense up the middle is more important than most other parts of the team. The power comes from the corners, infield and outfield, traditionally. Put MDD in CF and pay serious attention to addressing the offense in the corner spots.

Bourn will be a dud well before the Mets ever figure out their outfield. That contract is crap and Cleveland will regret it. Thank god the Mets never got roped into it.

          3. gategem

MDD appeared totally clueless on breaking balls and off-speed pitches. He has a long swing and I wasn’t overwhelmed with his bat speed. Over the years I’ve heard it said that CF is one of the easiest outfield positions to play if you posses reasonable speed (if you’re on speed then that’s another story). Except for the line drive hit straight at you judging the ball in CF is not all that difficult. Over the years some of the greatest offensive players have played CF (DiMaggio, Mays, Mantle, Snider, Beltran, etc.). I would love to see the Mets try and shorten MDD’s swing.

          4. Stick

at least someone seems to agree with me. I kept saying that they should be giving Spin his OF crash course in CF, since he seems to have the speed for it, and it is actually easier to learn/play (no corners, or side walls, not having balls slicing on you, etc.) Mostly see the ball and run like hell to catch it.

          5. darknova306

Meh. Spin is a garbage baseball player, and a handful of Spring Training games won’t change that.

          6. Stick

not saying I want spin, just saying that if you have an IF that has a lot of speed that you want to try and convert into an OF, do it in CF.

          7. darknova306

That works. CF should be speed and defense first. Especially with lumbering pieces of worthless crap like Duda in the corners.

        2. gategem

“not saying I want spin, just saying that if you have an IF that has a lot of speed that you want to try and convert into an OF, do it in CF.”

Stick that was the theory behind the silly Juan Samuel trade (and of course getting rid of Dykstra).

Of course the Yankees once moved Tony Kubek from SS to the OF and immediately found he was the best OFer on the ballclub.

      2. Trs86

Still didn’t want Bourn for what he got and besides we have future options for CF it’s RH power hitter I am worried about. Hell right now we are excited about Marlon Byrd. Bourn would have done nothing to change that fact.

    2. Stick

      son of a b***h b*****d.

      1. Boomer

Now, now. All is not lost. Kirk Niwhenaodheoushs is just getting loose.

Seriously, if someone can teach DD to hit even a little we have a CF with one of if not the best gloves in the NL if not MLB. Way better than Gomez who really didn’t do much at the plate until last year. Gomez is 27, DD is 25.

I’d rather have a great glove moderate hitting CFer surrounded by power at the corners.

  16. Hazmet

I haven”t seen this one from 1973 but it’s at or near the top of my list with many of the others mentioned here:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I98tU7qAKR0

Ball of the Wall Play – Out at Home. I think they may have moved into the tie for first place after winning this extra inning tilt.

    1. Hazmet

PS – what you can’t see too well for those not familar with this play is the ball hits off the top of the wall on the corner edge and goes up in the air as the LF has to wait for it and the rest is history.

  17. Connor O'Brien

Game 161 of 2008- Johan pitches 3-hit shutout to tie Mets w/ Brewers for WC

    1. SaltyGary

Besides the the no-no that was probably his most meaningful game as a Met.

      1. darknova306

        You mean Johan’s faux-hitter? :)

      2. Stick

actually, game 161 I would say was more important. the team was reeling, and fighting like hell to make the playoffs, and he nearly carried them in.

the no hitter, as with many of them, was more of a perfect storm of luck/flukitude.

  18. gategem

There are so many great games referenced here that take on historical significance in Mets history but one that I have not seen is:
4/23/1962 – Mets first win in franchise history.

  19. Boomer

Looking into the future, my favorite Mets moment just might be when the writers on this blog stop tossing up one open thread a day and then spend the day taunting the halfwits on Metsmerized and instead writing some content for threads here.

    Yes, I’m a dreamer.

    1. kingman 26

      Best.

      Comment.

      EVER.

Let the record show that most of the people here think that that comment section is a revolting joke.

      I am among them.

      1. Stickguy

Just to clarify Knog, you mean the MMO commenting section is a joke. Not here.

Don’t want to confuse any of your fans!

        1. kingman 26

Well, if one reads the comment carefully, folks with IQs above the mid-40s should get it…

And PS–Just about EVERYONE thinks that the MMO comment section is a joke. It gets roundly mocked at Metsblog. That should pretty much clinch it.

          1. Stickguy

that is low. like revenge of the nerds or something.

          2. kingman 26

            Well, I like truth.

            Truth is cool.

Hey, I know there are some good, wise people there, and there definitely are some fine articles.

But how can anyone like TRS or SRT stand that place? EVERY thread is ruined by the same tiny handful of outcast loser misanthrope ignoramuses.

          3. srt

Recently MMO wiped the slate clean, then instituted a policy of No Profanity, No Insults, No instigating. One strike and you’re banned for good.

Looks like 8 posters quickly got themselves banned.
Time will tell if this stops the nonsense from a few – or not. If we can take Joe D at his word though, if they don’t behave they’re gone.

          4. Boomer

I banned myself from MMO. I could not take the constant crap from the same group everyday. It ruins any meaningful discussion and sucks the fun right out of talking about the team I follow.

Everyone knows who starts the problems but they are still there and don’t seem bound by the same set of rules as everyone else.

I like the ambiance here much better. But the furniture could use some updating. I mean shag carpet?

          5. TRS86

Boomer, we are always up to suggestions on updates. Believe it or not we just had one. You should have seen it before, dirt floors.

          6. srt

            I understand, Boomer.

I basically ignore every post for a couple of them.

          7. Boomer

Yea, I tried that. From literally my first comment when I was accused of being jessep under a different name it was all attack mode from the “core”. And even when they weren’t going after me they were going after others, like you, that only served to derail every thread.

I have no idea why Joe puts up with but it’s his blog so he can do as he pleases. I still read some of the articles but I choose to inflict you nice people with my inane comments instead.

          8. TX

            webhits. pure and simple.

          9. srt

Oh yeah, that obsession with who is impersonating who was pretty funny.

You’ll find none of those ‘yo mama’ comments here at TRDM.

          10. kingman 26

Boomer–I agree with you 100% on that site’s comment section.

It’s a joke and not a funny one.

The SAME few people spewing their angry ignorance over and over and over and over and over again.

Believe me Boomer, the VAST majority of the people here are with you on this. The sad thing is that “The Core” is pretty much wrong about everything, and they know that if they venture to any other site they will be roundly mocked.

As you have noticed, the atmosphere here is quite different.

In any event, their loss is quite clearly our gain.

          11. darknova306

I read MMO articles from time to time. Other than that, MMO only comes up in my life when folks on this board talk about MMO’s comment section.

TRDMB and AmazinAvenue are the only sites with comment sections I’ll look at, and they’ve both rewarding. The mix of inanity and intelligence on this site is the most fun for me. :)

    2. TRS86

Boomer, are you a writer? We always have a need.

      1. Boomer

        Barely literate.

    3. TX

Don’t knock the open thread. Fresh canvas is a beautiful thing.

  20. srt

Gee had absolutely no control in those 2 innings of work. I don’t know if he hit more batters or had more wild pitches.

Edgin not sharp either, although he was victimized a bit by an error.
