Draft And Follow 7-11-09
- The GCL Mets crushed the GCL Cardinals 10-0 Friday. 2009 draftee C Camden Maron (34th round, pick #1034) made his professional debut. Batting 7th, Maron singled and scored in the 2nd inning, and in the 7th inning he walked and scored, finishing his 1st game 1 for 4 at the plate. 4 other 2009 draftees participated. 3B Josh Dunn singled and scored in the 7th inning, and wound up 1 for 4 with a walk. RF Cody Holliday doubled and scored in the 7th, finishing 1 for 5. Travis Ozga came on in the 8th as a defensive replacement at 1B and grounded out in his only at bat. ZeErika Hall made the most of his 1st appearance in the leadoff spot in the lineup. In the 2nd inning he had an RBI single and came around to score, and in the 6th he scored again after reaching on an error. Hall wound up 1 for 3 with a walk, an RBI and 2 runs scored, and is batting .368 overall after an 0 for 6 start to the season. For more see the box score and recap.
- The Kingsport Mets beat the Elizabethton Twins 10-9 Friday. 6 players drafted in 2009 took part. RF John Semel was 0 for 4. C John Freeman came on in the 9th inning as a defensive replacement but did not get an at bat. LF Kurt Steinhauer was hit by a pitch in the 5th and came around to score. He finished 0 for 2. In the 5th inning 3B Joseph Bonfe walked with the bases loaded to drive in a run, and came around to score. He wound up 0 for 3. CF Ronald Harris walked and scored in the 5th, and singled and scored in the 7th, finishing the game 1 for 4. DH Ryan Mollica had the biggest night of the 2009 class for Kingsport. He had 2 hits in the 5th inning. He led that inning off with a single and came around to score, then he doubled with the bases loaded driving in 3 runs to cap the 7 run inning for the K-Mets. - The Brooklyn Cyclones split a doubleheader with the Staten Island Yankees Friday, winning the 1st game 4-0 and losing the 2nd game 3-2. In the 1st game, 2009 draftee SS Robbie Shields (3rd round, pick #103) saw his 1st professional action, batting 3rd and going 0 for 3. Whether it means anything or not I can't say but he's been assigned uniform # 1. OF Alex Gregory played 1B for the 1st time and was 0 for 2 with a walk and a run scored. LF Nick Santomauro was 0 for 2 but walked with the bases loaded in the 7th to drive in a run. See the box score and recap for more.
- In the 2nd game, Staten Island scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th to come from behind and win (doubleheader games are 7 inning games). Gregory again played 1B and went 1 for 3.
