Gulf Coast League
  • The GCL Marlins beat the GCL Mets 4-3 Sunday.   4 players drafted in 2009 played.   Chase Greene pinch ran in the 9th and was forced out at 2nd base.   Cody Holliday pinch hit in the 6th and got a single.   He stayed in the game in RF where he made an error and finished 1 for 2 at the plate.   C Nelfi Zapata was 0 for 2 at the plate had 2 passed balls in the field before being removed in the 8th inning.   CF ZeErika Hall had an RBI single in the 7th and a single in the 9th to go 2 for 5.   For more see the box score and recap.
Appalachian League
  • The Kingsport Mets whupped the Greeneville Astros 13-4 Sunday.   5 members of the class of '09 took part.   P Thomas Chism finished the game for the K-Mets.   He issued a walk with the bases loaded to give up a run.   Overall he allowed 2 hits and 2 walks as well as the run in the 9th inning.   LF John Semel hit his 1st double of the season in the 6th inning to drive in 2 runs and finished the game 1 for 5.   SS Ryan Mollica had 3 singles in 5 at bats and scored 2 runs.   CF Darrell Ceciliani singled and stole 2nd, his 6th steal of the season, in the 1st inning but was stranded.   He singled and scored in the 3rd inning, then in the 8th he doubled but was stranded at 3rd base.   Ceciliani finished the game 3 for 5.   RF Kurt Steinhauer continued his torrid hitting in his 6th game for Kingsport.   Steinhauer singled and scored in the 3rd inning,   hit a solo homer in the 5th inning then hit a 3-run homer in the 6th.   In 6 games since being promoted from the GCL, Steinhauer is batting .471 with 3 HR and 7 RBI.   For more see the box score and recap.
New York-Penn League
  • The Brooklyn Cyclones edged the Auburn Doubledays 2-1 Sunday.   5 players drafted this June played for Brooklyn and 4 of them had good games.   We can forgive 1B Sam Honeck going 0 for 4 with 2 strikeouts since the team won and since he's batting .323 on the season.   SS Robbie Shields had the 1st multi-hit game of his young career.   He walked in the 1st inning, singled in the 6th and tripled in the 8th to go 2 for 3, bringing his average up to .176 after 17 professional at bats.   LF Nick Santomauro singled in the 2nd inning, hit a solo homer (his 1st) leading off the 5th and singled in the 7th rounding out his 3 for 3 game.   Wes Wrenn pitched scoreless 7th and 8th innings to pick up his 1st hold of the season.   He allowed 2 hits and struck out 2.   Darin Gorski (1-1) got the win, starting and going 6 strong innings allowing just 1 run on 2 hits and a walk, striking out 4 Doubledays.   See the game story, box score and recap for more.   The latest entry of Wrenn's diary has been posted.
