  • The GCL Astros edged the GCL Mets 8-7 in 10 innings Thursday.   4 players drafted by the Mets this June played.   Cody Holliday walked as a pinch hitter in the 9th inning and finished the game in left field.   3B Josh Dunn had a 5th inning walk and a 9th inning sacrifice bunt in going 0 for 2.   DH Nelfi Zapata had a 10th inning double and came around to score to cut the deficit to 1 run to highlight his 1 for 5 game.   LF Chase Greene had a 5th inning double to go 1 for 3.   See the box score and recap for more.

  • The Pulaski Mariners sunk the Kingsport Mets 9-7 Thursday.   The 2009 draft was represented by 4 players for the K-Mets.   P Thomas Chism came on to start the 7th.   He allowed a single, then that batter was erased on a fielder's choice.   The runner that reached safely was thrown out stealing, but Chism then allowed a walk and was removed.   The batter he walked came around to score so Chism finished with 1 run allowed on 1 hit and 1 walk in 2/3 of an inning.   SS Ryan Mollica went 0 for 3.   CF Darrell Ceciliani singled in the 1st, singled and scored in the 3rd, singled and scored in the 7th then capped off his 4 for 5 night with an RBI single in the 8th.   LF Kurt Steinhauer singled in the 2nd, doubled in the 4th, walked in the 6th and in the 8th got hit by a pitch and driven in by Ceciliani.   Steinhauer wound up 2 for 2 and is now batting .500 in 20 at bats with Kingsport.   See the box score and recap for more.   The Kingsport Times-News has the game story.

  • The Savannah Sand Gnats cut off the West Virginia Power 7-6 Thursday.   I must confess I really like that name West Virginia Power.   Their logo is of course a baseball surrounded by the letter "P" with bolts of electricity coming out of it, and they play in Appalachian Power Park, home of the Toast Man (who actually makes toast at his seat in the park) where Saturday night they are giving away a bobblehead of former University of West Virginia quarterback Pat White.   Good stuff.   Anyway, LF Joseph August reached on a 2nd inning error and scored a run en route to his 0 for 4 night.   For more see the game story, box score and recap.   The Charleston Gazette has the game story from the Power perspective.
