  • The GCL Mets crushed the GCL Nationals 11-1 Monday and are now 1/2 game out of 1st place in the GCL East.   4 2009 draftees participated.   RF Cody Holliday was 0 for 4.   OF ZeErika Hall got hit by a pitch as a pinch hitter in the 7th inning, stayed in the game as LF and had an RBI single in the 8th to finish 1 for 1.   In the 3rd inning, my current reason for living C Nelfi Zapata, who acted as DH for this game, hit a bases loaded triple and finished the day 1 for 3 with those 3 RBI.   1 of the 3 runners Zapata drove in with that triple was RF Kurt Steinhauer who was on base after an RBI single.   In the 8th inning Steinhauer hit a triple of his own, driving in 2 runs, and he wound up 2 for 5 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI.   For more check out the box score and recap.

  • The Greenville Drive defeated the Savannah Sand Gnats Monday 5-3.   Class of 2009 LF Joseph August batted lead off and finished 0 for 4.   P John Church came on in relief with 2 outs in the 6th, 4 runs in and a runner on 1st, and struck out the 1st batter he faced to end the Greenville rally.   In the 7th, he allowed 2 singles then made a throwing error which allowed the Drive's final run to score.   For more info check out the box score and the recap.   Not particularly related, a former high school basketball star surrendered in a Greenville drive-by shooting.
