The Mets passed on their Rule V selection, probably because relief pitching is what was most abundantly available and the events of a few nights ago negated any opportunities there.  Also, the Mets now have  39 slots full on the 40 man roster, and teams like to leave at least one slot open for wiggle room should the need arise. They did lose Rhiner Cruz, who was taken first overall by the Houston Astros.  Cruz was originally signed out of the Dominican Republic in 2003 by the Detroit Tigers, and signed as a minor league free agent with the Mets in 2007.  Last year he went 2-1 with a 2.77 ERA with High A St Lucie, and 3-2 with a 4.14 ERZ with 7 saves at Double A Binghamton.
