Gulf Coast League
  • The GCL Cardinals pecked the GCL Mets 4-3 Thursday.   3 players from the 2009 draft took part.   C Nelfi Zapata started the game but was pinch-hit for in his 1st at bat.   DH ZeErika Hall had a 1st inning single to go 1 for 4.   3B Travis Ozga hit his 2nd double of the season in the 3rd inning but was stranded at second base.   In the 4th inning he walked and stole second (his 1st steal of the year) but after advancing to third on a wild pitch, got picked off.   See the box score and recap for more.
New York-Penn League
  • The Brooklyn Cyclones split a doubleheader with the Staten Island Yankees Thursday.   The Yankees won the 1st game 12-3.   4 2009 draftees played for the Cyclones in game 1.   P Darin Gorski (1-2) started and lost, giving up 9 runs, 5 earned, on 8 hits and a walk in 2 innings of work.   In addition to being victimized by 2 errors he gave up 2 home runs.   Both errors were made by fellow draftees.   The 1st was by LF Nick Santomauro, it was his 1st error of the year.   At the plate Santomauro singled in the 1st inning to go 1 for 3.   The 2nd error to hurt Gorski was committed in the 2nd inning by SS Robbie Shields, it was his 3rd error of the season.   At the plate Shields was 0 for 3.   1B Sam Honeck did not commit an error.   He singled in the 1st inning and walked in the 3rd as part of his 1 for 2 night at the plate.   For more see the box score and recap.
  • The Cyclones won the 2nd game 3-0.   5 2009 draftees took part.   P Wes Wrenn (1-0) won the game.   He started and threw 5 2/3 innings, allowing 5 hits and 1 walk while striking out 5.   Brandon Sage relieved Wrenn and got the out to end the sixth, then was removed.   LF Alex Gregory was 0 for 3 at the plate.   Honeck went 3 for 3 with 2 doubles and now has 5 on the season.   He also committed his 3rd error of the season.   Shields walked in both his plate apperances and stole his 1st base of the season.   For more see the box score and game story.   The Staten Island Advance also has a doubleheader story.
