Havens & Moore out of AFL
Second baseman Reese Havens and pitcher Brandon Moore are no longer going to be playing in the Arizona Fall League as previously reported.Havens is being held out for a couple of reasons. First, after (hopefully) having his oblique/rib issues taken care of with surgery last offseason, Havens was held back some by back issues during the season, so he will rest that and hope to put that behind him. Second, Havens apparently lost 20 pounds during the season in AA, so he will be attempting to bulk up some during the offseason instead of playing in the Arizona heat (even in October, Arizona can be pretty brutal). The extra at bats would have been nice, but whether he played or not in Arizona will not change the fact that the Mets will likely add him to their 40-man roster to protect him from the rule 5 draft. So, while it would have been interesting to see how he fared, it's not that big of a deal.Moore is no longer going to Arizona after receiving a 50 game suspension for a "drug of abuse". There's no word on how this might effect his future with the organization, except that he definitely won't be seen until June. The Mets prospects currently listed on the roster of the Peoria Javelinas are pitchers Collin McHugh and Taylor Whitenton, third baseman Jefry Marte, shortstop Wilfredo Tovar, who is taking Havens' spot and could also play second base, and outfielder Juan Lagares.A few more Mets prospects will likely be added to the Peoria roster before the season starts on October 4th. The season goes until November 17th.
