Adam LaRoche has signed a 1-year, $4.5MM deal with the Diamondbacks, according to Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (via MLBTR). LaRoche has hit for an OPS over .800 each of the past four seasons, at least 20 home runs for the past five seasons, and plays an average first-base defensively.LaRoche turned down a two year, $17.5MM contract with the Giants just a few weeks ago. He's probably shooting himself in the foot right about now, as no other team would even match the Giants' offer. Of course, Omar's probably aiming at his own head, as instead of signing free agents, the Mets are actually losing players! This will likely further rumors of the Mets resigning Delgado, much to my chagrin. Sources have claimed that the Mets do not want to commit to Murphy as their everyday 1B this season, although they may not have a choice in the matter. Other first base options still on the market include Ryan Garko, Mike Jacobs, Russell Branyon, and Hank Blalock.
