Last night on the farm a pair of clutch hits help deliver a pair of victories, while the other two teams continue their struggles.Buffalo 3, Rochester 2Both teams scored 2 runs in the first inning, and then the only other run came on a Lucas Duda homerun in the 8th inning, giving Buffalo the win. Jenrry Mejia lasts only 4 innings, giving up 2 runs and walking 3. Mike O’Connor replaces him pitching 3 shutout innings for the win, before Dale Thayer pitched 2 shutout innings to get the save. Aside from the homer, Duda also doubled and drove in a run in the first inning. Jesus Feliciano had a couple hits as he tries to get going after getting moved back to AAA. Kirk Nieuwenhuis had a hit after a couple days without one; he’s now hitting .304.Akron 10, Binghamton 1Wally Backman is starting to question the effort of his ball team, and who can blame him after this loss, the team’s 6th in 7 games. Edgar Ramirez started and gave up 1 run in 3 innings, but got charged with the loss, mostly because Dylan Owen gave up 3 runs and Erik Niesen gave up 6 runs, putting the game out of reach. It was so out of reach that outfielder Raul Reyes pitched the 9th, walking 2 but surrendering no runs. At the plate, the team had one extra-base hit and 13 strikeouts; all coming from 6 batters who had at least 2 strikeouts each.St. Lucie 6, Bradenton 5Didn’t take long for the Mets of PSL to get back on track. Jeurys Familia started and only lasted 4 innings, giving up 4 runs on 7 hits, but he did strike out 5, and his ERA is a stifling 1.52. Kyle Allen piggybacked him for 4 innings, giving up just 1 run on 3 hits. But it was Jeffrey Kaplan and his 0.71 ERA who got the win after a scoreless 9th after Wilmer Flores drove in Matt Den Dekker for the game-winning run. Den Dekker was had the second of his 2 doubles to get in scoring position for Flores. Den Dekker had 3 hits and is hitting .393. Flores drove in 3 of the team’s runs in the game. Jefry Marte also drove in a run on 2 hits, and Rylan Sandoval had 2 doubles from the 9th spot in the order.Delmarva 7, Savannah 5Greg Peavy had a nice outing, giving up 1 run and striking out 4 in 5 innings. However the bullpen surrendered 4 runs in the 6th and 2 more in the 7th, which was too much for the Gnats bats to overcome. Wilfredo Tovar, Cory Vaughn, Robbie Shields, and Javier Rodriguez all had 2 hits each. Vaughn had a double, but also struck out twice. Robbie Shields had a solo homer, his first of the year. Blake Forsythe also doubled and drove in a run, but still remains below the Mendoze line.
