Last Night on the Farm - 4/6/13
The wins keep on coming for the Mets minor league teams, who are a combined 10-2 to start the season. Let’s see how it happened for them last night: Las Vegas 6, Sacramento 1Collin McHugh had a nice season debut, pitching 5.1 innings and giving up 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 7. Robert Carson pitched 1.2 scoreless innings and Greg Peavey pitched the final 2. At the plate, Andrew Brown continued his great start, going 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Josh Satin hit a 2-run homer. Zach Lutz, who started in right field, was 1 for 3 with a double and a walk. Both Travis d’Arnaud and Wilmer Flores went hitless. Vegas has won their first 3 games of the season. Binghamton 7, Akron 5The B-Mets are off to a 3-0 start. Logan Verrett pitched 6 shutout innings, and then came out for the 7th and gave up 3 runs without getting an out. Luckily, the bullpen had his back, as John Church and Adam Kolarek both threw a shutout inning. Offensively, the B-Mets had 13 hits, including 4 doubles and 3 triples. Josh Rodriguez and Blake Forsythe had 3 hits each. Forsythe was a homer shy of the cycle and drove in 3 runs. Alonzo Harris, Darrell Ceciliani, and Cory Vaughn had 2 hits each. Ceciliani and Vaughn each had a triple. St. Lucie 6, Jupiter 1Jacob DeGrom had a nice Florida State League debut, throwing six shutout innings, striking out 6 while giving up 5 hits and 2 walks. The Lucies had just 7 hits, but they got 6 runs out of it. T.J. Rivera and Matt Reynolds were a combined 3 for 9 with 4 RBI’s, batting from the top two spots in the lineup. Albert Cordero doubled and drove in a run. St. Lucie is off to a 3-0 start. Rome 6, Savannah 3Steven Matz threw 4 shutout innings, but allowed the first 2 batters to reach in the 5th and came out. He ended up pitching 4 innings, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks, with 6 strikeouts. Jake Kuebler, a converted position player, allowed 4 runs in 3 innings and took the loss. Kevin Plawecki was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Jeffrey Glenn doubled twice and drove in 2 runs. Brandon Nimmo was 1 for 4 with a run scored.
