Last night on the farm we saw three one-run games. Let’s see what happened:
Las Vegas 3, Fresno 2
Giancarlo Alvarado started and struck out 6 in 5 innings, while allowing 2 runs. Zack Thornton pitched 2 shutout innings; he has a 2.30 ERA since joining Vegas, although lefties are hitting .368 against him. Vic Black walked 1 and struck out 1 to earn his 7th save of the season. Matt den Dekker doubled and drove in 2 runs, and Andrew Brown homered to provide all 3 of the 51s’ runs.
Portland 2, Binghamton 1
Darin Gorski took the loss after allowing 2 runs (1 earned) over 5 innings, with 1 walk and 6 strikeouts. The B-Mets got a double out of Cory Vaughn and 5 singles, but that was it.
St. Lucie 10, Clearwater 3
Michael Fulmer was good, giving up 1 run on 5 hits over 7 innings, walking 2 and striking out 7. Of course, I don’t want to be a buzz kill, but the team he faced has a record of 9-33. Cole Frenzel was 3 for 4 with a double and 3 RBI’s. Gilbert Gomez hit a 3-run homer. T.J. Rivera and Eudy Pina had 2 RBI’s each. Brandon Nimmo was 1 for 2 with 3 walks and 2 runs scored.
Savannah 2, Charleston 1
Ricky Knapp struck out 5 in 6 innings, allowing 1 run and scattering 7 hits. Dario Alvarez struck out 3 in 2 scoreless innings. Robert Coles notched his 9th save with a scoreless 9th after the Gnats scored 2 runs in the 8th. Jeff McNeil, Dominic Smith, and Victor Cruzado had 2 hits each. L.J. Mazzilli doubled, drove in a run, and scored a run. Gavin Cecchini missed his 3rd straight game.
