Last Night on the Farm - 5/30/13
The Mets keep stealing the headlines from the minors, but things keep going well down on the farm too. Here’s last night’s action: Las Vegas 11, Reno 1The 51s exploded for 6 runs in the 1st inning and cruised from there. The top 7 batters in the lineup all had 2 hits each. Josh Satin, Brandon Hicks, and Brian Bixler all homered. Wilmer Flores doubled twice and drove in 3 runs. Bixler and Juan Centeno also drove in 2 runs each. Chris Schwinden ended up with the win after allowing just 1 run on 10 hits over 6.2 innings. Binghamton 6, Altoona 4Cory Mazzoni struck out 9 and walked 1 in 6 innings, but he gave up 4 runs (2 earned), being victimized by 2 homeruns. Adam Kolarek got the win after retiring all 6 batters he faced, including 4 on strikeouts. Jeff Walters struck out 2 in his 13th save of the season. Josh Rodriguez and Darrell Ceciliani had 3 hits each. Cesar Puello was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI’s. Mazzoni had 2 hits, including a double. Richard Lucas also doubled. The B-Mets are currently in first place in their division. Jupiter 4, St. Lucie 3Rainy Lara got a no decision in his FSL debut, giving up 3 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits in 8 innings, walking none and striking out 4. Luis Mateo threw a scoreless inning in his return from the DL, but Randy Fontanez gave up the game-winning run in the 10th inning. Travis Taijeron was 2 for 4 with a 2-run homer. Dustin Lawley tripled. T.J. Rivera had 2 hits. Savannah 8, Kannapolis 2This game was completed from a game that started May 3 that only went 3 innings. Marcos Camarena took over when the game resumed and gave up 1 run on 1 hit over 5 innings. Tyler Vanderheiden pitched the final inning to finish off the win. Stefan Sabol was 4 for 4 with a homer and 2 RBI’s. Eudy Pina ended up 2 for 5. Jayce Boyd was 2 for 5 with 2 RBI’s. Kevin Plawecki was 2 for 5 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI’s. Kannapolis 5, Savannah 4 (11 innings)Matt Koch let up 4 runs on 8 hits over 6 innings, with no walks and 4 strikeouts. Paul Sewald pitched 2 shutout innings of relief before giving up the game-winning run in the 11th. NimBoyEcki was back in action and a combined 6 for 14. The only other hits were solo homers by Maikis De La Cruz and Eudy Pina.
