May ended on a sour note for most affiliates, so let’s bring on June:Charlotte 8, Buffalo 4Chris Schwinden had a rough outing, giving up 5 runs in 4.2. Walking 5 guys didn’t exactly help his cause. The Bisons managed to score 3 runs in the 9th, but it was too little too late. Fernando Martinez led off the inning with a solo homerun, his 4th of the year.Erie 3, Binghamton 1 (game 1)Robert Carson had a decent outing, but didn’t get much help. He lasted 6 innings, giving up 2 runs on 7 hits, but only struck out 2. Josh Satin launched a solo homer, his 6th of the year. The B-Mets managed just 1 other hit, a single by Jon Malo. Reese Havens was 0-2 with a walk and a strikeout.Binghamton 3, Erie 2 (game 2, 8 innings)Colin McHugh admitted that he didn’t deserve a promotion to Binghamton, but he also said he would make the most of it and he did. McHugh lasted 6 innings, giving up just 2 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits, striking out 5. Erik Turgeon pitched 2 shutout innings and got the win. Jon Malo, Sal Manriquez, and Raul Reyes all had 2 hits each. The B-Mets had 7 singles, which was enough to push 3 runs across and get the win.Clearwater 4, St. Lucie 1Jack Egbert, who I believe spent last year on the Mets 40-man roster, (not that anyone noticed) took the loss after giving up just 2 runs (1 earned) on 8 hits. John Church gave up 2 more runs, but it was the Mets bats that didn’t do enough. Pedro Zapata had 2 hits to bump his average to .343. The 2-5 part of the order combined for 1 hit, as Matt Den Dekker and Wilmer Flores both went hitless. The lone bright spot was a solo homerun by Cesar Puello to lead off the game. It was his 3rd of the year and 2nd in 3 games.Savannah 1, Charleston 0Another outstanding effort from Greg Peavey: going 6 innings, giving up 3 hits and a walk while striking out 7. Gabriel Zavala and Josh Edgin finished the job in the bullpen. Savannah’s 9 hits only produced 1 run, but that was all they needed. Robbie Shields had 3 of those hits, including a double. Cory Vaughn had 1 hit and drove in the only run scored by Shields. Albert Cordero had 2 hits including a double.DSL Phillies 10, DSL Mets1 7The Dominican Mets scored 7 runs and committed 7 errors, leading to 6 unearned runs. Third baseman Yeixon Ruix and right fielder Joan Decena had 2 hits each. Left fielder Jose Figuera had 3 hits and 2 RBI’s.DSL Rays 6, DSL Mets2 4Andres Perez pitched 4.1 scoreless innings in relief, surrendering just 2 hits and 2 walks while striking out 6. Shortstop Jorge Rivero had 2 hits and 2 RBI’s. Elvis Sanchez walked twice and struck out twice. Jean Rodriguez had 2 hits and scored 2 runs as the designated hitter batting in the 9 spot. Both teams committed 3 errors.
