Last night on the farm Ike Davis and Mike Baxter made their Vegas debut and the Gnats closed in on a playoff birth with a long double header.  Let’s check it out: Las Vegas 8, Tacoma 6Collin McHugh only lasted 4 innings, giving up 3 runs (2 earned) on 4 hit and 4 walks with 5 strikeouts.  Sean Henn and Justin Hampson each threw 2 scoreless innings.  Robert Carson gave up 3 unearned runs in the 9th to give up the lead, but Zach Lutz hit a 3-run walk off homer in the bottom of the 9th.  Lutz was 2 for 5 in his first game back from the DL.  Ike Davis was 0 for 3 with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts.  Wilmer Flores was 3 for 5 with an RBI.  Mike Baxter was 2 for 4 with a triple.  Francisco Pena was 2 for 3 with homer and 2 RBI’s. Binghamton 6, Trenton 5Erik Goeddel got his 6th win of the season, giving up 2 runs on 8 hits over 6 innings, with 2 walks and 8 strikeouts.  Jeff Walters let up 2 runs, but managed to close out the 9th inning for his 16th save of the year.  Josh Rodriguez had 3 hits.  Danny Muno was 2 for 5 with a 3-run homer.  Allan Dykstra and Wilfredo Tovar had 2 hits each.  Travis Taijeron was 0 for 5 and took home the golden sombrero.  Cesar Puello was 2 for 4 before having to leave the game because of a jammed finger he suffered sliding into second base. St. Lucie 4, Clearwater 2 (10 innings)Alex Panteliodis scattered 9 hits, but gave up just 2 runs (both on solo homers) in 6.1 innings with just 2 strikeouts.  Hamilton Bennett worked around 2 hits to pick up the save.  Robbie Shields was 2 for 5 with a double.  Aderlin Rodriguez had 2 hits while playing first base.  Dustin Lawley hit his 12th homer of the year to lift the Lucies to victory in the 10th inning. Ashville 4, Savannah 3 (Game 1, 8 innings)Gabriel Ynoa allowed 3 runs on 8 hits over 7 innings, with no walks and 3 strikeouts, but Beck Wheeler allowed a run in the 8th inning, as the Gnats lost the first game of the twin bill.  Stefan Sabol was 2 for 4 with a triple and an RBI.  NimBoyEcki went 3 for 11. Savannah 1, Ashville 0 (Game 2, 11 innings)They were supposed to play 7 innings, but were struck in a scoreless tie for 10 innings.  In the bottom of the 11th, Brandon Nimmo fouled off 6 pitches with a 2-2 count and eventually drew a walk with the bases loaded to score the only run of the game.  Logan Taylor struck out 6 in 6 innings, with 4 hits and 3 walks.  Paul Sewald struck out 4 in 3 shutout innings.  Bret Mitchell threw 2 scoreless innings and got the win.  Phillip Evans had 2 of the Gnats 5 hits, all of which were singles.  Savannah’s magic number to win the SAL South Division is down to 5. DSL Cardinals 3, DSL Mets1 2Miguel Leal and Luis Ortega had 2 hits each.  18-year old lefty Aneury Olivo struck out 3 in 3 scoreless innings.  There seems to be a lot of young lefties in the Dominican, which may be why the Mets targeted mostly right-handed pitchers in the draft. DSL Rockies 7, DSL Mets2 418-year old outfielder Santos Infante was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI.  Jose Figuera doubled and drove in 2 runs.
