Last Night on the Farm - 6/9/11
In a post draft world, it’ll be interesting who gets shuffled around from Savannah and St Lucie to accommodate the newbies. On to last night’s action! Buffalo 15, Indianapolis 2The good news? The Herd crushed the Indians (oddly enough, a Pirate affiliate). The bad news? Kirk Nieuwenhuis left with a shoulder injury. The book on him is that he plays with a football mentality. Injuries come with the territory (even tho he injured his shoulder on a swing, he did jam the same should earlier in the year on a dive). In other news, Lucas Duda is likely to be called up to the Mets after Nick Evans got DFA’d. To celebrate his impending call up, he hit a two run homer. Fernando Martinez went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI. Luis Hernandez had the big blow, going 2 for 5 with a grand slam. He finished with 5 RBI for the day. Harrisburg 7, Binghamton 3Brandon Moore was neither fish nor fowl here, giving up 4 runs (3ewarned) over 5 innings. Alan Dykstra went 1 for 4 with a solo homer, and Jordanny Valdespin also was 1 for 4 with an RBI. Reese Havens pinch hit and popped out. For the season, he is hitting .275 Charlotte 4, St. Lucie 0Juan Ligares went 2 for 3 to raise his average to .329, but the rest of the PSL Mets could only muster three other hits en route to being shut out. Armando Rodriguez took the loss, tho pitched better than he deserved (4IP, 3 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2K). Savannah 5, Augusta 3Darrel Cecciliani has had trouble getting back on track since his DL stint, but he now has an 8 game hit streak after a 3 for 5 effort with an RBI. His average is now up to .257. Aderlin Rodriguez had the deciding hit with a 2 run single. Gonzalez German went 6 IP, 8 hits, 3 runs, 2 earned, 0 walks, and an impressive 8 ‘s.
