Last night on the farm, there was an ejection, a walk-off win, and Jeremy Hefner making his first rehab appearance since Tommy John surgery. Let’s have a look:
Albuquerque 6, Las Vegas 5
Giancarlo Alvarado gave up 3 runs in 4 plus innings, and after 3 shutout innings from Ryan Reid, John Church allowed 3 runs in the 8th to get the blown save and the loss. Gonzalez Germen threw a scoreless inning. Cory Vaughn was 3 for 5 with a double and RBI. Wilmer Flores and Brandon Allen both had 2 hits, with a double and RBI. Andrew Brown was removed from the game after legging out a single. Wally Backman was ejected in the 3rd inning, doing so on Wally Backman jersey night in Vegas, and according to reports kicked dirt on the umpire before leaving.
Binghamton 9, Erie 3
Cory Mazzoni struck out 9 in 7 innings of work in his second start of the season, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks. Jack Leathersich and Cody Satterwhite both threw a scoreless inning to close out the game. Dilson Herrera was 3 for 5 with a double. Jayce Boyd was 3 for 4 with a homer and 3 RBI’s. Kair Gronauer also homered. Gronauer, Darrell Ceciliani, and Dustin Lawley all had 2 hits. Brandon Nimmo was 1 for 5 with a double.
St. Lucie 5, Lakeland 4 (10 innings)
L.J. Mazzilli doubled to lead off the bottom of the 10th, and later scored on a wild pitch to give St. Lucie a walk-off win. Maikis De La Cruz and Cam Maron had 2 hits each. Phillip Evans homered, while Gavin Cecchini was 0 for 3 with a walk and run scored. Luis Cessa started and struck out 8 in 7 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits.
Charleston 4, Savannah 1
Robert Gsellman lasted just 4 innings, allowing 4 runs on 6 hits, walking 4 and striking out 3; the Gnats committing 4 errors didn’t help. Champ Stuart and Dominic Smith both had 2 hits, as well as 2 strikeouts. As a team, the Gnats struck out 14 times.
Connecticut 4, Brooklyn 3
Octavio Acosta let up 1 run on 1 hit over 6 innings, striking out 3, but the bullpen blew 2 leads, as Luis Mateo, Brad Wieck, and Josh Prevost all let up a run. Tucker Tharp, Michael Bernal, Jeff Diehl, and Tomas Nido all had 2 hits. Amed Rosario was 1 for 4 with a walk and strikeout.
Bristol 9, Kingsport 8
Andrew Church got lit up for 5 runs in the first innings, then gave up another in the second before coming out; his outing totaled 6 runs on 8 hits, with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts over 1 plus innings. The K-Mets clawed back, but didn’t have enough. Branden Kaupe, Oswald Caraballo, and Eudor Garcia all had 2 hits, with Garcia driving in 4 runs.
GCL Nationals 4, GCL Mets 3 (7 innings, completed from Friday)
Adrian Almeida struck out 7, but lasted just 4.2 innings, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits and 3 walks. Alfredo Reyes had 3 hits, including a double and RBI. John Mora and Enmanuel Zabala both doubled as well.
GCL Nationals 4, GCL Mets 3
Jeremy Hefner made his first rehab appearance, pitching a perfect 1st inning. Darwin Ramos pitched 3 of 6 scoreless innings that followed, before things got out of hand for recent draftee Alex Durham and the rest of the bullpen. Meanwhile, the team accumulated just 2 hits, yet found a way to score 3 runs.
