Last night on the farm only the Cyclones were the only team that was victorious, although we did see another stellar performance from Jeurys Familia, as well as Rainy Lara; although those were balanced out by terrifying performances by Akeel Morris and Chase Huchingson. Let’s take a look at the good and the bad from last night: Toledo 4, Buffalo 1, 10 innings Well, look what we have here. For the third consecutive outing, Jeurys Familia was really good. He pitched 8 innings and allowed just 1 run on 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 9. The only run came on a solo homer to 35-year-old veteran John Lindsey. Unfortunately for the Herd, in the 10th inning Manny Acosta put runners on and Justin Hampson let them in. Also unfortunate for Buffalo, there was very little offense. Adam Loewen was 2 for 5, Rob Johnson doubled, and Matt Den Dekker took home the golden sombrero. Trenton 7, Binghamton 1 Cory Mazzoni was solid, but unspectacular in 5 innings of work, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits while striking out 4. The bullpen didn’t help, as Jeff Stevens let in 3 runs and Adrian Rosario let in 2. It was all singles for the B-Mets offensively. Juan Lagares, Allan Dykstra, and Michael Fisher all had 2 hits. Wilmer Flores was 0 for 4 for the second straight day. Brevard County 9, St. Lucie 7 Chase Huchingson struggled and was chased (pun intended) out of the game in the 1st inning, letting up 5 runs (3 earned) and recording just 2 outs. Kyle Allen gave up 3 more, which put the game out of reach despite a comeback attempt from the Lucies offense. Late in the game Adam Kolarek struck out 2 in a scoreless inning; why he is not in Binghamton yet I have no idea. Alonzo Harris was 3 for 5 with 2 doubles, an RBI, and a walk. Danny Muno, Blake Forsythe, and Richard Lucas all had 2 hits. Lucas blasted a homer and drove in 3 runs. Cory Vaughn was 1 for 3 with a double, an RBI, and 2 walks. Brooklyn 7, Hudson Valley 3 Rainy Lara put together another solid outing that included a lot of strikeouts. Lara struck out 7 and walked none in 5 innings, while giving up 3 runs (2 earned) to earn his 4th win of the year. David Wynn threw 3 shutout innings in relief and Tyler Vanderheiden pitched a perfect 9th inning. Kevin Plawecki was 3 for 3 with a double, an RBI, and a walk. Eudy Pina and Jeff Reynolds both homered. Brandon Nimmo doubled (his 8th of the year) and drove in 2 runs. Bristol 10, Kingsport 7 The nightmare continues for Akeel Morris, who lasted just 2.1 innings and gave up 7 runs on 5 hits, while failing to strike out a batter. In 5 starts this year, Morris has put up a 9.74 ERA. The offense showed up some, with 8 of the 9 starters getting at least 1 hit. Gavin Cecchini hit his 6th double of the year.
