Last night on the farm was filled with quality pitching performances, as two teams chasing a playoff spot got big wins. Let’s take a look:
Las Vegas 6, Round Rock 5
Cory Mazzoni threw 7 shutout innings, but let up 4 runs in the 8th before recording an out; he did strike out 8. Cory Vaughn was 2 for 3 with a 3-run homer. Josh Satin and Bobby Abreu had 2 hits each.
Binghamton 5, Akron 2
Steven Matz had no trouble tossing 5 shutout innings, giving up 3 hits and no walks, striking out 6. T.J. Rivera had 3 hits. Brandon Nimmo was 1 for 4 with a double. Dilson Herrera was 1 for 3 with an RBI.
St. Lucie 3, Jupiter 2
Kevin McGowan put together a good performance, taking a no hitter into the 7th inning and ultimately giving up 1 run on 3 hits over 6.1 innings. Gavin Cecchini was 2 for 4 with a double. Phillip Evans also had 2 hits. Alberto Cordero hit a solo homer.
Greenville 8, Savannah 5
Alex Panteliodis lasted just 2 plus innings, allowing 6 runs on 8 hits. Champ Stuart was 1 for 3 with a homer and 2 RBI’s. Jonathan Leroux hit a solo homer. Dominic Smith had the day off.
Brooklyn 10, Tri-City 1
Marcos Molina had another strong outing, going 6.2 innings, and allowing 1 run on 1 hit and 5 walks, striking out 8. Michael Conforto was 2 for 5 with 3 RBI’s. Jhoan Urena, Michael Bernal, and Tyler Moore also drove in 2 runs each. John Mora was 3 for 4 with 3 runs scored. Brooklyn’s lead in the wild card race holds at 2 games, and for what it’s worth, they have a magic number of 7 with 8 games to play.
Kingsport 9, Johnson City 1
Persio Reyes tossed 7 scoreless innings, giving up just 3 hits and 1 walk, while striking out 5. Eudor Garcia was 3 for 5 with a double and RBI. Oswald Caraballo was 4 for 5 with a double and 3 RBI’s. Ivan Wilson was 2 for 4 with a 3-run homer, his 11th of the season. Zach Mathieu, Jose Garcia, and Vicente Lupo all had 2 hits each. Kingsport and Johnson City are now tied for the last playoff spot in the Appalachian League West Division. Both have 5 games left, including the next 2 against each other.
